who else is upset by the events of AX 2003

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime music video contests.

Actually yes the Iron Chef competitors are my call. Quu did make the request for ErMaC, but Tim was partly my call, SpPanda was my call for my "on deck competitor".

Tim is the Fanime "IRON CHEF" of 2003

If we have Iron Chef return and if Tim returns he will have to defend at Fanime against a competitor of my chooseing. If he doesn't I reserve the right to select an "acting" champion until Tim returns. I have talked to a few people regarding my personal wishes for "1 of " the possible upcomming Fanime Iron chef events I have planned.

currently Fanime AMV is beign re-tweeked to be even better than this year and with a 4 day show adds the possibility of several expansions to our improving AMV programs ( perhaps even a dedicated "Henati" AMV contest )

Nothing for Fanime has yet to be arranged or confirmed.... mainly becasue I am taking it easy for the time being since it is a pain to organize a large event like this in any regard.

But good job to all of the AX AMV creators, AX staff for a pretty good show, a bit bumpy, but I know more than most how hard it can be behind the sceens to put together a monster of an event like this.

Oops! Sorry. At least with ACen and AWA I know it's his call so I thought it would be the same. Guess it's wrong to assume all cons would do it the same. Anyway...

Man... Fanime is sure shaping up to be the west coast AWA. If we really can push this whole AMV scene at Fanime I would be extatic because it is my home convention. It would be great if we could have more contests and AMV related events.
Splendid, Scott. Thanks again (even if you didn't recognize my face at AX. ~_^)

nah its just that we didnt withdraw from cons we previously submitted to after winning

Nappy wrote:It wasn't booed at Fanime for trolling, I think it was booed because of the Yatta song, it also got applause when it said the yatta song is the music in the title.

thanks for that info, id much rather believe that lol

Ashton wrote:First off, that damn Yatta video is a troll. How many contests has it won? It should have been disqualified before it got there. I was pleased with how Fanime Con handled the situation: it was booed out of the contest without any awards.

well gee, thanks a lot.

ive defended myself enough, even attempted to withdraw from fanime, but oh well. personally, i would never boo the work of another nor would i want others to do such a thing to a fellow creator, regardless of its performance at other conventions.

and congrats to all the winners of AX, wish i coulda been there

You're right, it probably shouldn't have been booed. But it was, I don't care what Richard says, I was there, there was very loud booing section. I'll stop speculating at that group's reasoning, but it happened.
In terms of the judging at AX goes, can you really support what this guy said? Were the judges were unfair? Should we go back to the sound meter gig so that the louder chearing core audience gets to select the winner?
Richard made a good point after the masquarade: there was a certain well known AMV creator that sat in front of the AMV group of seats at the masqaruarade and made fun of the people coming on stage, so Richard said to me, "What if **** ****** were to show his video in front of the crowd, and everybody around him sat and heckled it? How would he feel then?" So, yes, BaHaRa, you're right, booing is unnacceptable. The only acceptable audience response to a creative work should be clapping or nothing.

i dont know what the best way of judging is, and so i am fine with leaving that up to people more experienced than i (the ax crew). im sure the judging was just fine, and i have no right to complain nor any reason to.

The Best Form of Judging is the Magical Duck Method.

A duck is put onto a stool and allowed to watch the videos.

The duck quacks when a winning video is played.

Simple, efficient, and unquestionably scientific.

I loved the chibi things that kill, but, as all who attended will agree, leaves of happaness got a much bigger response and deserved to at the very least be shown again at the masquerade............GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR

Dood, you must either be smoking a LOT of pot, or not enough.

There were FOUR TIERS of AX judging. One was the initial Judges, who chose Chibi. The next was the AX staff, who chose Euphoria. The next was the AUDIENCE, who chose Chibi. The next was the AX fans, who ALSO chose Chibi. Do you see Leaves of Happaness anywhere in that list?

Face it, Leaves of Happaness got beat, and quite soundly too. Had we been using the applause meter, yeah it'd probably have won. But since the fairness of such methods was quite effectively rendered moot by a certain wiseass (ahem), that's not how judging is done.

As for asking to replay LoH during Masquerade, now you're smoking crack. The videos presented during masquerade are strictly to show award winners. If they'd played one extra video just for haha's, they'd have to do that for ALL the videos out of fairness. Furthermore, they were on a schedule... ...even though that schedule did get blown due to a screw up on the recap DVD which WORKED IN YOUR FAVOR since you got to see the winning AMVs in their entirety rather than a just 2 minute recap. What more could you reasonably ask?

Some people, man... I swear.

My god... I don't recall anything in the AMV community that has ever gotten me as riled up as this retarded concept.

Let me make one thing clear: THERE IS NO SUCH THING. If there's a video that is really good, send it to EVERY frickin' convention and let it rack up awards. That's the whole damned IDEA. If I make a video and it wins two awards at two conventions, I'm not going to say "Okay, that's enough." Bullshit! I'm gonna send that to every damn con and let it rack up awards and prizes! If I create a video I worked hard on, I want it to be shown EVERYWHERE and I will gleefully accept as much recognition for it as I can get. Why WASTE my time making the damn thing otherwise? It'd be like Microsoft saying "Okay, we've earned enough. We're going to close up shop now."

This is the pettiest concept I have EVER had the displeasure of hearing, and there is absolutely ZERO logic behind it aside from opening up a slot so an inferrior video can get in. It sounds like something a sore loser or runner up would say at a competition. It's petty, and I have less than zero respect for any competition that employs such a petty rule.

Vlad, you're such a troll! I can't count how many different cons your DDR1 and DDR2 videos have played at! And just think, when your DDR3 video comes out, it'll be played at half the cons across the nation as well!

TROLL!!
I have no idea how to use this new forum.
