Otakon 6/21 Prescreening: Who's coming?

Postby iserlohn » Thu Jun 19, 2003 12:05 pm

I think the title says it all. Do you plan on driving down (or up) to College Park? Bringing friends? Want to come but not leave your house at 6AM Saturday to get here? Let's discuss Saturday here.

I'll start off by saying that I'll be there, camera in hand, and that I hope to see a lot of AMV people there. This is your time to make a statement with your voting and attendence, so let's not have it be one of apathy.

Oh, and I'm heading over by campus today, so I'll be picking up some more takeout menus. Pizza is good, but so's Chinese and everything else in the area.

I'd go, but I really need to get cracking on my DDR3 video...

Plus, I hate College Park
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I'll try to make it there. I'll see what type of weaponry I can find to use on obnoxious hecklers.

Then again, I should prolly work on my DDR3 track too...

I'd like to be able to, but the King of Prussia one is looking like the only one I'll be able to make it to... :(

I'll be there.

Is it the same room as last year?

No, it's not. Last year the screenings were in Plant Sciences, this year they're in the engineering building, rm. 1202 (lecture hall). Check the maps at http://www.umd.edu (should still say "engineering classrooms" or something as the building) and find lot G4. It's right off Rt. 1 on the right (and almost directly across the street from the cube).

Metro runs to the College Park/University of Maryland station. There's a shuttle between campus and the station, but on weekends it doesn't start until noon (if they have it running on weekends this summer, they didn't last year). I have no idea re: metrobus, unfortunately.

The easiest way to walk to campus is to go out the main exit (through the turnstyles and staight ahead) and follow Paint Branch Parkway up to campus. Cross Rt. 1 (or go under it on the bike path) and keep going straight to the Engineering building. The walk usually takes me 15-20 min. to do if it's not boiling hot or raining.

I'm going to KoP. Less driving, and Alan's couch has an ass-groove that's out of this world!

Ahh yes the ass groove.. it makes the futon/couch so easy to fall asleep in.. it makes me want to nap just thinking about it.

I just want to point out.. I didn't make the ass groove.. that's my ex-roommates fault.. however.. Vic is right.. the ass groove is out of this world.. who needs one of those poly-pedic chairs.. when you can have an ass groove built-in your very own futon! I would make homer cry! =_)

Yeah, got nothing better to do, plus I came last week, so I NEED to see all the vids to make sure the votes are even (lol, even....rrrriiiggghhhtttt, lol)

I'll also be sitting in the back. It's eazier to spot hecklers and throw stuff at them  *note to self: pring lots of throwy type things*

Oh and if I see people playing with laptops I'm gona hurt them......cause I don't got one

Oh yeah iserlohn, explain again why it is so critical that you videotape the pre-screenings??? I want everyone to here this...
Don't feel to bad thought. I was going to bring mine (but I ain't got no high tech digital camera that can do my laundry and cook my dinner like you do) so I could tape the reactions to a friends vid (assuming it is on tape 3 or 4) but decided he does not deserve that kind of "input"

Quick question since I know absolutely nothing about this whole process...

Are the videos that are being shown this Saturday (6/21) the same videos that were shown last Saturday (6/14), or is it a whole new batch?

Also, for those not familiar with the UMCP campus, the screening is being held in Building #88 on this map (you can click on the bldg for more info).
You left enchanted by my intellect...

or maybe, you didn't.

I've got a couple reasons. The big one was so that if anyone complains about category they can see the tape of Matt explaining how to judge by it. The other....well, you'll have to wait for that.

I've had a couple people ask me to do theirs, and if I'm feeling nice i'll turn it on and record the sound for them, but they'll have to wait until after the con (or at least until after the finalists are announced) to get their copy.

re: hecklers....I wasn't able to borrow some SCA swords, so there'll be no beating people with sticks. Darn.

According to Matt's email, we will be watching tapes 3 and 4 this week(we did 1, 2 and the individuals for 5 last week). Next week will be 5, 6, and 7. This is, of course, taking it for granted that Quu got the tapes finished and that express mail hasn't collapsed under the weight of 400,000 copies of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. (Amazon promised Saturday delivery for virtually all non-PO Box preorders. I will be pissed as hell if I get home to find mine waterlogged because of the rain.)
