Otakon 2003: Sizing up the Competition...

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime music video contests.

Woohoo! More upbeat vids! Assuming you entered what I think you did Nappy, you're quite right- Upbeat/Rhythm is definitely where it belongs, and where it should do quite well. I can't wait for next weekend's prescreening to get a look at some of the rest of the vids. Upbeat is going to be a good, strong category this year for sure though, as will all of the others. Of course- it's Otakon, I suppose it's sort of silly to even worry there will be a "weak" category- though comedy does look to be the lightest so far.

I assume you're rounding up on that count, Nappy? :P

Well after you winning "Action" at JACON. I really wanna say "Drama" since that would complete the "cycle" in terms of genre and thus end the world as stated by (I think) Rozard and I.

I mean if you won Drama there and Vlad Comedy....end of the world imminent :-P.

Then again, I already know what it is so...perhaps the world WILL end...or maybe not?

1) Yes
2) Upbeat/Rhythm/Fun (might be changed to comedy at pre-screenings, we'll see)
3) 108

4) I would also like to add that I'll be going to the Pre-Screenings.

Ashyukun wrote:Strata- I'm assuming you entered into Upbeat/Rhythm by that. I think you'll do fine... Maybe Upbeat/Rhythm will dominate the con this year! Woohoo! Enough drama vids! Booo drama!

Castor- Somehow I doubt you have the only action entry... Though all told at the cons I've been to Action has been increasingly one of the more sparse and weaker categories...

Truly sorry about the tripple posts guys, but I keep seeing things I want to talk about and I can edit my previous ones.
*Activates the PHADE light (like the batman light but this one projects AMV's on the clouds)* PHADE, HOW ABOU TTHE OPTION TO EDIT A POST UNTIL AFTER SOMEONE POSTS SOMETHING AFTER IT.

Back to what I was saying...It figures that the one time I actually make something that might be worth any kind of credit and I got to go and submit to what will probibly be the most over crowded catagory at the con.

Oh well, guess there is next year...
The only way I could win something is if there was a new catagory caled suckiest vid, and even then I would only win if I was the only one who entered.

(no, I have no confidence. Watch my first two vids and you'll see why......not the flash stuff, those are parodies, here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=6513 and here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=6757. So I didn't know how to use premiere, and I was using a fragmented hard drive. That's no excuse for sucking, or is it?)

I think Dokidoki's 'guess' meant comedy. I don't think I have seen him enter a different catagory at Otakon since I began watching the contest in 1999.

Sounds good to me :D

I'd rather figure on it getting changed to comedy at pre-screenings... I know I'd definitely count it as more of a comedy vid than an upbeat/rhythm video. And I think you're going to be very far off on the count :P From what I can find, there were some 120 vids last year, and with Quu's online submissions I'd have to figure there will be even more.

Well the only reason I think there will be so few, is because of how late the rules and contest info were posted.
I think that will effect the number of submissions to a degree.
Unless you already had a video ready, or already started one for otakon, then you really did not have much time to get something really good together.
I Started back in December working on and off and was not sure if I would finish in enought time or not. And I know at least 1 person who did not have enough time to finish her video.

Remember, whoever is closest wins.

1999 was <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=163">drama</a>, though.

Hah! If there was a suckiest category, I so would've entered my vid there. It was important for me to take all sorts of things that I've noticed about sucky vids, and combine them into a single ubersucky vid!

Well considering I've seen his Otakon video, I knew it comedy :-D. I'm just stating the implications of if he wins Drama and Vlad wins Comedy in the near future...the world...ending.

So lesson here...don't do Drama Tim...the fate of the world is in your hands.
