Otakon 2003 Trailer Submissions...

Postby iserlohn » Mon Mar 31, 2003 12:33 am

Quick ? for Matt or anyone else which is Otakon submission but not contest related:

What's the deadline for MAT3K trailers? Please make it later than the Contest deadline since some of us have things like finals, graduation, finding jobs, getting visas approved, and making our competing videos to do by May 30 already...

Thanks a bunch for the info!

Since there's less volume and no contest pre-screening involved, we can set the deadline for trailers (and commercials, eyecatches, whatever) a month before the convention, which I guess would make it around the Fourth of July. Let's say that trailers have to be received by Sunday, 2003.04.06.

As soon as I'm able to, I'll put a submission form up on the otakon web site for people to use.... We'd like trailers to be on VHS/SVHS tape so that the MAT3K guys can edit them into the screener tape easily.

For people who don't know about this, the guys at Mystery Anime Theater 3000 pick a couple of the funniest trailers/commercials/eyecatches that Otakon receives each year to play between the two halves of the MAT3K movie to give their arms a few minutes rest. :)

We're going to be putting together a screening tape of trailers both old & new to show as the first thing to kick off Saturday evening's fan parodies at Otakon 2003.

Have fun storming the castle

Thanks for being patient everybody. I'm having difficulty e-mailing Otakon's webmaster to get the fan-parody form up on the official Otakon site, so it's on my own meager little web directory for now.

The submission form for fan-produced video projects (fan parodies, movie trailers, fan films) is at http://www.netaxs.com/~mpyson/ for your perusal. Note this isn't a contest, just a way to send non-AMV stuff in to get shown at the con. Mailing address is the same for music videos:

We look over the shorter ones to find commercials, movie trailers, eyecatches etc. to pad the mid-point break in Mystery Anime Theater 3000 (it's the only chance the puppeteers have to rest their poor arms). For things to be considered for MAT3K we need them to be on VHS (or S-VHS) videotape because MAT3K is done on VCRs.

You mean like a "it'll play in my Playstation 2" DVD? Give it a try if you want to, but homemade DVDs never seem to work right for me when I try and play them. :?

Burn at your own risk, basically. I ask for tapes cuz I know they'll play right.

I'm slogging through them but I figure I've only got about 23% done so far. I'm processing them in order of postmark date, so the later is was mailed, the later it will get logged and acknowledged.

According to FedEx, it was recieved on 5/28. I *think* i may have done something stupid and also burned my other two AMVs onto the DVD as well... I sent an email to the effect of "I'm an idiot, just watch SYLN and ignore everything else."

Can't wait to see how SYLN fares in the prescreening... I should check the dates again, maybe one of the days I can drive down to B-More and join in...

I was planning on sending in Samurai Windu and Dai-Osaka Rap, but 'll probably put PPG:R on the end of the tape as well (it's gone over quite well every time it's been shown, I suppose there's no real reason not to, especially since parodies aren't limited to solely anime source, which is PPG:R's main problem...).

If the SW TV Spot project was finished by now, it would've been cool to send the whole thing to Otakon, but I guess it's not. We've only got like what....3 released so far?

Yeah, it would have been quite cool to premiere it there in its entirety. But you're right- to my knowledge at least, only three segments are done- yours, Wuwu's, and mine... We're still missing a few rather major ones :P
