Personally, I always considered AWA (the Expo, Pro Contest, and Masters) to be part of the Triple Crown of anime convention AMV Contests (alongside Anime Expo and Otakon).jingoro wrote:It's funny, though the Expo was created as a reflection of Hollywood and the annual recognition of excellence in filmmaking, the contest has moved in another direction. It's my understanding that, around or before the time I was getting into the scene, the Grand Slam was considered to be: A-Kon (end of May), Anime Expo (beginning of July), Otakon (beginning of August), and AWA (end of September).TnAdct1 wrote:Personally, I always considered AWA (the Expo, Pro Contest, and Masters) to be part of the Triple Crown of anime convention AMV Contests (alongside Anime Expo and Otakon).jingoro wrote:It's funny, though the Expo was created as a reflection of Hollywood and the annual recognition of excellence in filmmaking, the contest has moved in another direction. I haven't bothered going back to the contest lists trying to see if anyone ever pulled it off.

thinking way back when those were what I considered the major contests... then again in the late 90s there went a ton of cons lolScintilla wrote:It's my understanding that, around or before the time I was getting into the scene, the Grand Slam was considered to be: A-Kon (end of May), Anime Expo (beginning of July), Otakon (beginning of August), and AWA (end of September).TnAdct1 wrote:Personally, I always considered AWA (the Expo, Pro Contest, and Masters) to be part of the Triple Crown of anime convention AMV Contests (alongside Anime Expo and Otakon).jingoro wrote:It's funny, though the Expo was created as a reflection of Hollywood and the annual recognition of excellence in filmmaking, the contest has moved in another direction.
