Personally, I always considered AWA (the Expo, Pro Contest, and Masters) to be part of the Triple Crown of anime convention AMV Contests (alongside Anime Expo and Otakon).

It's my understanding that, around or before the time I was getting into the scene, the Grand Slam was considered to be: A-Kon (end of May), Anime Expo (beginning of July), Otakon (beginning of August), and AWA (end of September).

I haven't bothered going back to the contest lists trying to see if anyone ever pulled it off.

thinking way back when those were what I considered the major contests... then again in the late 90s there went a ton of cons lol
