How many cons do you usually submit to?
Being extremely new to the whole AMV contest thing, I'm wondering just how many cons most of you usually send your AMvs too and if there's such a thing as too many.

Typically the unspoken rule is send to as many as you want but if you start sweeping contests (meaning winning over and over with the same video over an extended period of time) you'll get the stink eye from other editors.
Personally I try to pace myself and not submit a finished video to every contest available at that time. But I've been around for a while and I know which contests I prefer to enter. Since you're new it'd be a good idea to test the waters. Each con has its own personality.

I need to find the original thread where everyone wanted to burn Ryan at the stake... lolCastor Troy wrote:Rider4Z wrote:Typically the unspoken rule is send to as many as you want but if you start sweeping contests (meaning winning over and over with the same video over an extended period of time) you'll get the stink eye from other editors..
I will admit after 6-8 awards I feel bad sending the same stuff...

On the off chance I ever DO start sweeping I will keep that in mind.Rider4Z wrote:Typically the unspoken rule is send to as many as you want but if you start sweeping contests (meaning winning over and over with the same video over an extended period of time) you'll get the stink eye from other editors.

I do know one person who said she stops when she "wins four contests" and I chocked thinking; "FOUR?!! I'd settling for winning one!"

Re: How many cons do you usually submit to?
I submit fairly often. I certainly don't submit to every convention, I don't think I've ever made it past a dozen or so in a year's time. Even then, I spread it out and submit a wide range of videos, since I typically make 8-12 videos a year anyway. I attend 3-4 cons and get to watch the contests and I do find it annoying that the contest line-ups at many conventions end up being nearly identical, but I also understand that a lot of editors only make a couple videos a year and so the contests reflect that. ......but that's why I like AWA Pro because you HAVE to make new stuff. It's like AMV Christmas for me!
