I guess it's for the convenience of a direct download link opposed to one that redirects you to where two or three identical links are, it just saves them time cause all they're trying to do at that point is collect the videos.GloryQuestor wrote:Um... if I wanted to, why can't I send you a link on the Org? At this time we are only accepting digital entries via file sending sites such as http://mega.co.nz/ or other such sites that do not require a membership to download the files or thru your own web hosting site. For more information please look at our “How do I Enter?” section of the rules.
*Do not send me a link to your video on the Org or Youtube*

What do you mean, "identical links"? The Org's method of getting videos is, and always was, straightforward:UnluckyArtist wrote:I guess it's for the convenience of a direct download link opposed to one that redirects you to where two or three identical links are, it just saves them time cause all they're trying to do at that point is collect the videos.GloryQuestor wrote:Um... if I wanted to, why can't I send you a link on the Org? 1. Click the green "Local" link on the creator's description page;
2. Click the "Proceed" button to bypass the donation page (unless you donated, then you never see that page);
3. Wait for the file download to begin, and save it.
Just want to know why Crossroads' rules are excluding Org links/downloads. >_>

We don't allow Org links because more often than not videos that are hosted on this site are not 'contest' ready. By that I mean they include credits which are not allowed or they do not have the required blank space before and after the video among other things. This happened with a few videos a couple years ago and we weren't to happy about it so that rule was added. I was under the impression that asking those to submit their videos to AMV contest via ether the contest own server or a file sharing site instead of using the Org was common or have I been wrong this whole time?
It also does make things not only A LOT easier for me, being the only one who directly handles AMVs and anything AMV related for the con, but for the other con directors as well to keeping it organized. I'm not gonna make the other directors join this site if they don't want it when they already have access to the contest email.

The contest taking the responsibility to have their own upload capability used to be the norm. Sadly, that has started to go away.

Personally I have had editors forget to add a blank space in the video so in order to create that gap I just make 2 second blank video before and after. I don't touch the editors video, but they are indepent from the video when I burn the DVD or put them in the playlist to give it that gap.
As far as credits I had editors that left them in before and it is easy to fix that with VLC, the Tekkoshocon crew was able to help me out this year and we had no video issues.
So I'm not sure why these are still issues when there are easy work arounds.

I use to add the blank spaces if people forgot when we used a burned DVD for the contest but we don't use that anymore so I rather the editors add it themselves since it's not that hard to do and honestly not a big deal.Gene Starwind 21122 wrote:Personally I have had editors forget to add a blank space in the video so in order to create that gap I just make 2 second blank video before and after. As for a 'easy fix' with VLC I shouldn't have to fix what I clearly state in the rules isn't allowed. I have made exceptions for videos in which the credits are PART of the video but that because the editor asked and explained why they weren't removed and that all you have to do. I'm pretty easy to get along with but I'm getting a bit tricked off here. This isn't my 1st time running the contest but unlike you lot I don't have a lot of help. For what we have right now this works and I don't see a need to change it. Changes will happen if they need too but right now it's pointless. Maybe next year but sure as hell not this year.

It's about 50/50 for me between cons that have you upload to their servers and those that just ask for a link. But either way, I wouldn't link to an Org video information page as a download - you're completely right, that's my distribution copy, not my "con" copy. Some of them do have a blank space, but that's where I write my name.Fay-Sa wrote:I was under the impression that asking those to submit their videos to AMV contest via ether the contest own server or a file sharing site instead of using the Org was common or have I been wrong this whole time?

Thank you for your response on this, and my apologies if my inquiries caused you any undue stress.Fay-Sa wrote:I'm pretty easy to get along with but I'm getting a bit tricked off here. Just like you, most of us who are responding are long-time contest coordinators and we all have learned many things that we freely share with other coordinators, just as we were by those who taught us. We only want to share the knowledge we learned over many years that can make contest management easier on yourself and on the community at large that submit their videos to us. We all rely on each other, and in turn, help each other out so that we can all contribute to the continued success of these events that influence our community.
So, please, if you ever need help or advice in any capacity, know that we're all out here ready and willing to help you out with whatever you need. Don't feel like you are alone. We're all willing to help you out, just let us know what you need from us, and we'll be more than happy to assist.

-slow clap- well said. Yeah coordinator, I know it must be extremely difficult running a con and stuff, it's just I feel it might have been a bit easier to have used one of those Google docs entry forms other cons have used. But I'm not gonna complain, I followed your submission rules just fine. ^^ don't stress yourself out
