For Momiji's Challenge it is yet again time for a technical restriction. This year's challenge is to create an amv using only hard cuts with no obvious visual effects.

I have a question.

I was reading the rules and it says you won't allow anything before Nov 1, 2013? Is that right? Seems a little tight.

Damn, I don't know if I have time for this since the only qualifying one I have to submit is a month older than deadline :/ I love the idea though, I may have to slide it with a new idea...

The premiere date means that you can't submit a video that has been shown publicly before Nov. 1 2013. Which means that if you've uploaded it to a public website (like YouTube or the org) or submitted it in competition somewhere, you must have done so after Nov.1. It's alright to submit a video you made earlier, so long as it wasn't available to the public before that date.

I hope that helps clarify the premiere date rule. You can still submit on older video in Exhibition.

I get it. My newest was posted in October so I guess I'm out this year.

Is this timeline to be expected again next year? I won't premiere anything until N2U if that's the case.

Yes, the November 1st premiere date rule has been in effect ever since I took over the contest in 2007. If a new coordinator comes in next year, it might change, but I think it's safe to assume that this will be the rule.

It is meant as an anti-trawling measure. We don't mind if your video has already won awards or if it has already be been shown at another convention, so long as the video is reasonably fresh and hasn't been circulating around for a long time. That's the idea anyway. And the spirit of the Challenge is to make a new video specifically for it, so there's a level playing field for those entering the Challenge. Obviously, we can't really police that, but again, the premiere date helps.
