Didn't make finals here at home. That sucks.

Sort of a rough year for me overall, despite the one win at Anime USA. It almost seems that I'm at the mercy of the pre-screeners and whatever personal biases they may have for or against certain issues. Why did Yaoi-con have to take this year off?

It almost seems that I'm at the mercy of the pre-screeners and whatever personal biases they may have for or against certain issues.

This leaves me confused.
First, no one knows who made any of these entries.
Before screening for finalists, I rename every file to show only the titles so no names are seen.
Second, I stress to everyone to leave their bias and preferences regarding music and anime out of the scoring.
Third, for each entry, there are several criteria that are scored and then those numbers are averaged.
The highest five or six scores from each category move on to the finals.
Finally, no one shares their scores.
I run a pretty tight ship where this process is concerned so rest assured there was no bias or whatever to factor into the decisions here.

I trust you enough to know that you can run a good AMV contest, regardless of my presence or lack thereof in the pre-screenings (i.e. having entered or not). And when I mentioned "personal biases" I didn't necessarily mean "related to music or anime" - I know it came up as a very obtuse concern at Otakon's pre-screenings, but really I can't do anything about that. I don't really set out to change people's minds about certain issues. I'm no politician.

Anyway, I'm more disappointed that I didn't get in more than anything. Not as bad as getting rejected 7 contests in a row like last year, but still.

I don't mind telling you that video which only needed two more votes to beat you was made with Grave of the Fireflies.
There were many "awwwwww"s when it began playing.
Like I said...the viewers had to make some tough choices and it was your hard work as the creators that forced it.
