I had *so* much fun at AX this year. I was awesome meeting all the creators of some of my favorite AMVs, including the one video that triggered me to make my first AMV all those years ago! The AMV Room was jam packed almost all con, with AMV Chef and the Ten Year AX Retrospective being my main highlights. Many thanks to Vlad, Troy, Nic, Brad and everyone else for working so hard to put on a great show all weekend long.

And of course, when the screen went dark after hearing "Darkness is coming..." during my video at the rescreen, I almost died of laughter. I can now say my AMVs broke two convention's contests now, woohoo! My prize this year is an awesome memory! So don't worry Troy, you don't have to commit ritual suicide from this editor, okay? ;)

Thanks everyone for such an awesome con. Hope to see many of your again real soon, and if you were curious which AMV truly did bring Darkness to Anime Expo, here's a shameless plug ;).

Not sure if anyone watched the Life's Too Short finale on HBO, but this made me think of it

Congrats to the finalists and winners. I'll post some opinoins later though does anybody have a link to the Resident Evil video? I have a friend whose favorite game series is RE and I really want him to see that one.

I'll be uploading it (hopefully) tonight. If not tonight, then definitely tomorrow. Work kicked in as soon as I got home, lol.

In fact, when I was announced as the winner at the Awards Ceremony, I sank down in my chair because I felt so embarrassed of “stealing” the award from the more professional editors. They probably feel the same way I did when I did not win the AX 2012 Masquerade Best of Show for my Bioshock Big Daddy cosplay, which I spent hundreds of hours constructing. Personally, I wanted “Into the Labyrinth” to win Best of Show. The editor of that video perfectly integrated the twitch effect with the music’s rhythm.

Personally, I think your video absolutely deserved to win and not just because it was so much fun. "Testing is the Future" had tons of skill go into it, especially for a first-time AMV (I was stunned by that) and ultimately was not only the preference of the audience but also the creators. If your fellow editors think you deserve it, then I tend to believe you deserve it!

Additionally, I hope future AX's allow all categories to run for best in show like this year. While I realize that hasn't been the case in prior years, I like the current system for choosing the Best in Show winner (the 33/33/34) and feel that if something appeals to the audience that much, it shouldn't be excluded from being chosen as Best in Show regardless of the category it came from. (I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of attendees ignored/didn't notice that rule anyway and voted however they saw fit...) I imagine it would also lead to a somewhat lessened sense of excitement for the ultimate winner as well if they were put in the position of knowing that a video from another category stood a really good chance of having been BiS but was disqualified just due to the category it was in.

One more thing. Does anybody know the name of the Noir Salva Nos remix that was played while everyone was pouring out of the room? I adored it and haven't heard it before.

In contrast, I don’t mean to downplay the results of the competition at all. I feel extremely excited and honored to receive such an awesome award. I just wish I was able to express that during the ceremony. I’ve never been very articulate, and I usually prefer the attention to be on the things I make, not on myself.

Again, congrats to all the winners! :D

I think I'll give you a little more slack for not giving a speech now. :P

I did score your video high during judging and I give you props for the technical merit, but I did feel some of the other entries were more my cup of tea.

Next time, give a speech in your Big Daddy cosplay. :dino:

As everyone's been saying; great Expo this year!

The Trailer/Parody entries were the highlight in my opinion. That Soul Eater entry that used audio from Hanzel and Gretel was especially well thought out, as was that Fast and the Furious one with Valkyria Chronicles. I kinda thought that Comedy was a little lacking, though. Nothing floored me like it had in previous years. Regardless, it was still a solid contest.

The AMV Room was a Godsend! I couldn't believe how packed it was on Sunday, even up until the last minute. Hope we can get a playlist for all of those non-finalists; there were some real gems in there. Vlad looked like his brain was doing 200mph, so let me just state here that we appreciate everything you and Troy did for us at this convention! I don't know if a bigger room will solve your problems next year, but here's hoping that photo you took leads the way to more privilages and volunteers in the future! You guys deserve it!

Way, WAAAAY too much stuff to gush about (the Meet & Greet where I got to see someone's face upon discovering Interstella 555 for the first time :uhoh: , the casual hanging out and bumping into other editors during the con, Creator's Spotlights that, after getting my 15 minutes of shame, had people STOPPING ME and RECOGNIZING ME on the bus to and from the hotel. Wow.).

So in recap, bueno contest everyone! Kudos.

If I were any less of a man I'd be shedding tears of manly joy right now...

Thanks guys. Really. This entire year was a perilous challenge that nearly broke me. It's so indescribably rewarding to see that all the ego bruising, sticking-out of necks, and hard work paid off above and beyond expectations. This kind of response badly needed to happen, more than you will ever know. There were those who had doubts (and even said as much), but those are now gone.

I've already had conversations with some of the powers-that-be. Y'know the small AMV Room, the small rescreening room, and the AMV ticketing issues? That'll be addressed (where feasibly possible) and I didn't even need to ask.

Happy new year, AX2014. :)

I asked the AVS team who ran that room. If I get a reply I'll let ya' know. :)
