Corndog Vidvids Iron Chef - RESULTS ARE OUT!!!

Post by Radical_Yue » Mon Jan 28, 2013 8:18 pm

The First Ever CDVV Iron Chef
Welcome to the first ever CDVV Iron Chef! You may have seen other studio-based ICs hosted before, but this one is a little bit different....

How It Works
Each member of CDVV has their own unique preferences when it comes to music, style, and editing. Below, you will find descriptions of what each editor prefers when it comes to editing and music preferences. You will then choose a CDVV member and enter their “group”. Once you have selected your CDVV member they will provide you with a rar of music (10 - 15 songs) that they have selected and edit it as you see fit.

Once the videos have been completed, they will be turned over to the selected CDVV member for judging. If you do not PM your selected CDVV member with a download link to your video before the Round End deadline then you will be disqualified. Please see the deadline section for more information.
Said editor will be the final and only judge for each of their groups. Each CDVV member will judge the videos based off a set criteria and provide scoring and comments.

Rules
1) Individual entries only. Groups are not allowed.
2) You may only edit with the provided audio.
3) Once you have chosen a “group” and been provided with your audio, you can not change.
4) Make sure your editing and sources are Orgable.
5) You may add bumpers and title cards to your video. The bumpers/title card sections will not be factored into the judging/time limit rule.
6) Multiple people may select the same song. There is no “first dibs” rule.
7) When submitting your video you are allowed to include comments about the video to help your judge better understand your concept.
8) Keep in mind that the goal of this contest isn’t to try and pander to the CDVV member you choose. The goal is to try and adapt and work with what you've been provided to make the best video you possibly can.
9) If you sign up and don’t submit a video then we can never be friends. :(

Criteria
Concept/Originality
Technical (Sound Quality/Visual Quality)
Sync/Effects/General Editing
Effort
Overall

Deadline
Sign Up: You must have your editor selected by 5:00pm CDT on January 31st, 2013
Round Start: The Round begins at 10:01PM CDT on January 31st, 2013.
Round End: You must have a link to your video PM’d to the CDVV member you selected by 11:59pm CDT on February 4th, 2013.
Winners Announced: February 7th, 2013

Winners
The individual group winners will be decided by the CDVV member in charge of them.
There will also be a Top 3 Winners that can come from any group and will be decided by all participating members of CDVV.
If a group only gets 1 signup then that person automatically wins the individual vote for said group as long as they produce a video and are still eligible for the Top 3 ranking.

Still interested? Time to meet your CDVV members...

Spoiler :
For my song selections I’ll be bringing some lovely electronic songs to the table. This could be anything from trance music, to happy hardcore, or even some sick remixes.. Genre-wise I'll be providing songs that will work with just about anything, action, upbeat, romance, drama, etc... Mindless editing with no theme or general concept will not score you points with me. I’m not looking for a story but if you can only edit “random” then you may want to consider choosing a different group. If you really want to make me happy, show me some sexy internal sync ;) Be ready for some of the harshest scoring and judging if you select me.

Song list:
Armin Van Buuren Feat. Adam Young - Youtopia
Armin van Buuren feat. Christian Burns - This Light Between Us
Armin Van Buuren Feat. Winter Kills - Take a Moment
Ayah Marar - Unstoppable (Metrik Remix)
DJ Fresh feat RaVaughn - The Feeling- (Metrik Remix)
Elena Ferretti - I Love Spaghetti Feat.Mirka (You can thank Mirkosp for this one! xD)
Ham - Scream Your Heart Out
Hixxy - Love Leaves No Scar
Hixxy - Sea of Love
Hixxy - Take Me to Heaven
Hybrid Minds ft Katies Ambition - Fade
Jenny Rom - Hanky Panky (EMC2 Mix) (And you can thank Chiikaboom for this one!)
John B feat NSG - Light Speed (L Plus Remix)
Nero - Promises (Skrillex Nero Remix)
Pendulum - Hold Your Color (Bi-Polar Remix)
Fall_Child42:
Spoiler :
I like to laugh, and I like the strange. If you can combine those two things together you are absolutely golden. Too many people out there think that describing something as silly or stupid is a negativism. Not I! I prefer to roll around in the joyous absurdity like a marmot. A marmot that has a psychological disorder that causes it to believe that it is a pig rolling around in mud. The songs you are likely to receive from me will be culled from a variety of sources and can range from playful electronic synth, to Ukrainian folk, to japanese noise music. I have no preference either way for effects or no effects, the videos that will appeal to me most are the ones that simply do not take themselves very seriously. Or a video that is taking the piss out of something that is taking itself too seriously.

Song list:
Alestorm - Wolves of the Sea
Cee Lo Green - Bright Lights Bigger City
Cibo Matto - Birthday Cake
Dan Deacon - The Crystal Cat
David Hasselhoff - Du
DJ Kurt - I Don't Like It
Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son
Komprex - Terror Worldwide
Los Colorados - Tik Tok
Muse - Starlight
New Kids feat. Paul Elstak - Turbo
Simple Plan - Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Soundtrack - Sonic Boom
The Dan Band - Total Eclipse of the Heart
The Shaggs - My Companion
Ileia:
Spoiler :
I listen to the radio all the time and I like popular music. I'm completely aware that some of these songs are awful, but they're catchy and I like them. However, I also like a lot of random stuff, anywhere from rap to rock to classical to german children's songs and weird mashups. Like everyone else, I love internal sync! I also love when a video has clearly defined ups and downs. A fast, intense video that is fast and intense all the time is boring. Give it some contrast! Story isn't absolutely necessary, but concept/mood is key. Bonus points if you can pull off a video that is opposite of the song's intent (like a happy song to a someone murdering a puppy). I'm not particularly harsh in my judging, but I will be taking it seriously.

Song list:
Aerosmith - Pink (The South Beach Mix)
Britney Spears - Till The World Ends
Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song
Calvin Harris - Feel So Close (Radio Edit)
Danzai no Hana ~Guilty Sky~
DJ_Earworm - Party on the Floor (Capital FM Summertime Ball Mashup)
Emily Loizeau - pays sauvage
Fishbone - Date Rape
Infant Sorrow - Going Up
Jon Lajoie - I Can Dance
Plain White Ts - That Girl
The Glitch Mob - Fortune Days
X-Ray Dog - Zoo Bop

ZephyrStar:
Spoiler :
I'm all about concept, and I like the unusual. My favorite videos are those that break the boundaries of what the definition of an AMV is. If you do something whimsical and out of the ordinary, or tell an alternate story, you'll have my attention. I dislike gratuitous rap, twangy country, and pretty much all pop music. Other than that, I'm pretty easy to please. You can expect an eclectic and varied mixture of music from me. Most importantly, I do what I do because I love to do it. If you love what you do and pour your heart into it, then you'll impress me. Don't think you'll have it easy if you pick me, however, as I do give focused and constructive criticism, but I do it in a friendly way. Oh, P.S., I'm also an artsy pretentious bastard. SIGN UP HERE IF YOU LIKE SCIENCE!

Song list:
Clutch - You Can't Stop Progress
The Delgados - All You Need Is Hate
Phonat - Zombie Army
Crash Kings - Come Away
Dandy Warhols - Solid
Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill
I Monster - Some Thing's Coming
Justice - New Jack
Kings of Leon - Razz
Phoenix - Armistice
Stars - Bitches in Tokyo
The Byrds - It Won't Be Wrong
The Flashbulb - The First Rain And You
Them Crooked Vultures - Caligulove

Otohiko:
Spoiler :
One of my favourite kinds of AMVs are atmospheric and moody, rather than bright and happy – so I guess you can call my category “The Melancholy of Otohiko Suzumiya” (or something D:). The songs chosen for this category are all somewhere on the more thoughtful, sadder, darker side and will lean in the direction of post-progressive/alternative/ambient-pop sort of stuff. They will probably work best for concept/sentimental/character profile/drama sorts of videos. The average length of provided music tracks is a little over 4 minutes, so some of the longer ones may require a little editing - and I love a good audio edit, but be sure to avoid abrupt jumps or mis-matches, which can really break the mood.
I am very open-minded about editing and like lots of different styles, but more than anything what matters to me is a good concept and solid mood sync. A video that best conveys an atmosphere, story, character or feeling will definitely score highest in this category!

Song list:
Arjen Anthony Lucassen - The New Real (edit)
Chroma Key - Colorblind
Lunatic Soul - Adrift
Exit Clov - Free Zone
The Pineapple Thief - Build a World
Blackfield - Oxygen
Explosions In The Sky - So Long, Lonesome
Porcupine Tree - Time Flies (edit)
Minus the Bear - Empty Party Rooms
Татьяна Зыкина - Успокоиться (Tatiana Zykina - Settle Down)
No-Man - Truenorth (Video Edit)
Uh Huh Her - Dreamer
Pineapple Thief - Snowdrops
inthesto:
Spoiler :
I like positive energy, a strong narrative, and romance. My selection of music is going to be oriented towards upbeat videos with a lean towards the romantic, so get ready for that. As a simplistic editor, I prefer videos that make judicious use of special effects, and only adds them when it adds something to the narrative of the video. Focus on telling me a story and selling me some emotion, and you’ll probably win. Also, I will be judging your videos while too drunk to know which way is up, so you'd better be ready for that.

Song list:
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Daniel Ingram feat. Rebecca Stoichet - Love Is In Bloom
Miki Higashino - Beautiful Morning (Kentaro Haneda remix)
Jason Derulo - Fight For You
Little Boots - New In Town
LMFAO - La-La-La
Ne-Yo - Closer (Stonebridge Club Remix)
Sunfreakz & Jeremy Carr - The Way We Are (Official Radio Edit)
The Jackson 5 - ABC
The Knocks - Dancing with the DJ
Earth Wind and Fire - September

aesling:
Spoiler :
I have a somewhat eclectic taste in music; I like a lot of electronic music, but I also grew up on Celtic and Bluegrass music, so don't expect standard pop music from me. I tend to enjoy stuff with good internal sync, and I do like some kind of overarching concept, theme or flavor. If you do an action video, it needs to have soul. I also really appreciate when someone tries something bold or different, even if the execution is not completely perfect (don't think this means I'm forgiving of sloppy work though). I also like it when someone tackles a particularly difficult genre like horror. It's incredibly difficult to make an effective horror AMV, so I'm always interested to see people experimenting with it. Comedy is also hard to do, especially if you're not DokiDoki, so if you think you can make me laugh, knock my socks off!

Song list:
Basshunter - Boten Anna
Deus Ex Human Revolution - Opening Credits
Mattias Häggström Gerdt - The Result Is Always Death
Eddie From Ohio - Adiós, Lorena
Malcolm Kirby - When Good Heists Go Bad
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Pendulum - 9,000 Miles
Pendulum - Propane Nightmares
Shiny Toy Guns - Don't Cry Out
Shiny Toy Guns - Speaking Japanese
The Birthday Massacre - Kill The Lights
The Birthday Massacre - Lovers End
Dishonored Soundtrack - The Drunken Whaler

meleechampion:
Spoiler :
I want badass action videos! Internal sync above all else. Bonus points if your internal sync matches a lyric or you make me laugh. If you're using any effects they better damn well fit. Your music will have an awesome drum beat and will more than likely feature distorted guitars. You know, late 2000s modern/indie/alt rock. Your video will be rated 0-5 in each of the following categories: crazy, cool, slick, cute, dope, wicked, nuts, boss, fresh, intense, tight, insane.

Song list:
Arctic Monkeys - A Certain Romance
Arctic Monkeys - If You Found This It's Probably Too Late
Bit Shifter - The World Has Turned And Left Me Here
Bloc Party - Like Eating Glass
Does It Offend You, Yeah - attack of the 60 ft lesbian octopus
Franz Ferdinand - The Fallen (Ruined By Justice)
Gnarls Barkley - Transformer
Gorillaz - Dirty Harry
Menomena - Wet and Rusting
OK Go - Do What You Want
Pastiche - Sonic Boom
The Fall of Troy - Mouths Like Sidewinder Missiles
Two Door Cinema Club - Cigarettes in the Theatre

Kitsuner:
Spoiler :
If you want me to enjoy your video, your best bet is great lyric sync. I love the funny, and lyrics are often an excellent source for laughs. The more I laugh, the better your score. You get extra points if I don't expect your choice of lyric sync.

I feel like this next part is self-evident in Rules of Good AMVs, but I'll say it anyway: contrast is king. A video that doesn't progress or change in tempo/tone/mood at all is hell of boring. My favorite videos are usually high-energy, bouncy-balls of fun time, so expect a bunch of pop and rock songs.

I generally prefer hard-cut transitions, so the flow between clips is pretty important. Internal sync is sexy as what. I don't mind special effects or lip sync, but they need to feel integrated into the video as a whole. Don't throw off my groove, man.

Song list:
Awolnation - Nor Your Fault
Ben Folds - Rockin' The Suburbs
Bishop Allen - Middle Management
Cake - Love You Madly
Channing - Bootsy Bootsy Boom
DJ Earworm - Got to Give Up the Dancefloor (Marvin Gaye vs. Stylophonic)
fun. - Walking the Dog
Grouplove - Tongue Tied
Ke$ha - C'mon
Mother Mother - The Stand
New Politics - Give Me Hope
Reel Big Fish - Everything Is Cool
The Nails - 88 Lines About 44 Women
The Presidents of the United States of America - Kitty
Tony Randall and Jack Klugman - Brush Up On Your Shakespeare

Catastrophe Clash:
Spoiler :
I like videos that tell a good story. It can be funny, serious, happy, melancholy, pretty much anything, but there needs to be a good sense of direction to it. Oh, and I like passion. Romance, violence, whatever, it has to have force of emotion behind it. I appreciate effects, but make sure they enhance the story and don’t obscure it. Good synch is a definite plus. I will provide an eclectic selection of tracks, so hopefully you’ll see something that doesn’t drive you nuts to work with. Edit the tracks as much as you need to. Due to CRTC regulations I am required to include bonus points for punching, hockey and other Canadian content.

Song list:
Treble Charger - Brand New Low
The Arrogant Worms - Jesus' Brother Bob
The Arrogant Worms - The Ballad of Dan
The Arrogant Worms - The Last Saskatchewan Pirate
Barenaked Ladies - Lovers in a Dangerous Time
BTO - Taking Care of Business
Crash Test Dummies - The Ghosts That Haunt Me
Great Big Sea - When I'm Up I Can't Get Down
Our Lady Peace - Clumsy
Stan Rogers - The White Collar Holler
Sum 41 - Pain for Pleasure
The Arrogant Worms - Kill The Dog Next Door
The Tragically Hip - My Music at Work
