Cause as it stands right now there are a few category suggestions that would just overlap like crazy and essentially be the same pool of videos and it doesn't make sense to create a bunch of similar categories to potentially just award them all to the same handful of videos.

But if there is like some stipulation where if one video won two or more categories, it takes one of them instead, and the other categories can go to the runner up instead etc etc. Overall it would help to spread the love around I'd be more inclined to vote for some of these other categories that are close to being functionally identical. Otherwise it just seems like a lot of unnecessary redundancy.

Since the category nominations and the video nominations are all 1 step, you kinda have to vote for everything because you don't know which categories will make it forward and which videos will make it forward in those categories. It's a necessary evil because of how the rounds got combined. If you pick 1 category of 2 that look the same and only vote in that and everyone else picks the other one, you just, effectively, lost all of your votes.

Good point. But I still think it'd be good to spread things around rather than just letting a handful of videos potentially win everything (but I think all contests should have that rule/policy anyways) Right now it can go down where Best in Show/Drama/Sentimental/Emotional/Romance (plus all the technical/editing/artistic/etc) type awards could go to just one or two videos, not saying thats its a guarantee that something like that will happen, but it can definately make a contest really boring. (for other contestants and the audience at least, can't deny that its super exciting and fun for the winner lol)

You've got to believe in the power of love heart of the cards me who believes in you magic of the system.

... Or they could just give me all the awards. I think I could be strong and shoulder that heavy burden.

I support limiting the number of awards to 1 per video. It keeps things more interesting.

Can anyone remember if video won multiple awards before? I can't exactly say I remember any doing that.

If it helps, I can tell you the following:
1) I approved several categories today. Everything from the top until the Derpy Hooves award WILL be awarded.
2) I ordered trophies today. There will be at most 15 trophies in Pro.
3) That means no more than 3 other categories will be approved.

Please nominate into each category as if it were the only category in all pro... based on how you feel videos qualify against the description of that category and its title. In this phase, please vote for EVERY video that you would be pleased to see as a FINALIST in that category. I look for the top videos, by count of nomination, in each category to move on to the final vote.

Categories that don't have enough competition may be dropped in favor of those that do.

Yes. This has happened.
The rules allow one video to win in any number of categories.

It is far from impossible, but it has been rare.

FYI I made some changes in how ballots are tallied for the balloting screen.
Hopefully this will solve some problems.
Things were being calculated 3 times, when they should have been calculated once.

As always, bug reports -> jingoro@jingoro.net. You're welcome to post them here, too, but I respond faster from my email.

Whelp, here's my set of two cents.

Spoiler :
#1 - Wasn't crazy about the lip sync. Kind of an average trailer otherwise.
#2 - Not crazy about the combo.
#3 - The visuals didn't really match up to what was going on in the lyrics, particularly in the verses.
#4 - I rather liked this, though the lip sync felt wonky at times.
#5 - Reminds me of Nya-chan Production's "Just Passing By", but a whole heck of a lot less dynamic.
#6 - Not even literal mammary cannons can save this one.
#7 - I liked the horror elements in this, but the constant switching back and forth between overcoat/no-overcoat on Keifer irked me. Visual continuity anyone?
#8 - Good all around video. Nice story.
#9 - What'd any of the different footage have to do with each other. Just felt like you ran out of footage from one source and abruptly switched to another.
#10 - Interesting concept and mix of sources. However, a large chunk of time it just feels like too much is going on visually; this combined with the short cuts don't give enough time to fully register what you're looking at.
#11 - The text effects gave me a headache.
#12 - Not exactly the most original song/source combo ever...
#13 - Odd, but amusing concept. Horizontally stretched footage was really obvious.
#14 - Nice video, but the romantic connotations of the song kind of make the video a bit eyebrow raising.
#15 - Had to rewatch the original just to see how much the two actually lined up.
#16 - This was enjoyable.
#17 - Cute video, but the zoom transitions seemed unnecessary.
#18 - I fell out of my chair laughing at this one.
#19 - The fast transitions during the instrumental parts felt kind of jarring.
#20 - Beautiful effect. Too bad the edges are so rough and aliased looking.
#21 - Video keeps pace with the song's tempo quite well.
#22 - Extremely positive vibe.
#23 - The nose-wiggling during the lip sync was super noticeable.
#24 - Kind of ho-hum comedy. Really badly aliased. The men chant lip sync seemed kind of off to me.
#25 - I like the reactions to this video more than the video itself.
#26 - Umm... bumpers? Suitably goofy.
#27 - Hard to take the Rick Astley vocals seriously; I couldn't get past that.
#28 - Amusing idea but it drags really hard by the end. Though I imagine that's the point.
#29 - No real sync going on here.
#30 - The cuts/transitions feel too fast for the pace of the song.
#31 - Picking a girl to represent Hawking felt awkward.
#32 - REALLY abrupt ending. Having random items in the background glow in sync with the music felt silly.
#33 - Another abrupt ending. The chroma keying was really rough around the edges (pun intended). Kind of confused as to what Dream Eater Merry had to do with the rest of the video.
#34 - Funny, but the constantly changing AR wasn't handled too well.
#35 - Umm... credits? The image borders were poorly cut out. I'm not much on MMV's anyhow.
#36 - Cute video, but a lot of the transitions seemed rather unnecessary.
#37 - Good to see a video game music video in the mix.
#38 - Appropriate lyrics for Hell Girl, but the visuals don't keep pace with the song's tempo.
#39 - Umm...
#40 - Amusing concept, but it wasn't all that interesting to watch.
#41 - Decent romantic comedy. The lip sync feels more like lip flap though.
#42 - Short and pointless. Shouldn't it have been Luffy speaking at the end?
#43 - Despite my lack of interest in sports, I enjoyed this.
#44 - Very amusing, but HOLY LIP FLAP BATMAN!
#45 - Well done, but doesn't feel like a complete amv.
#46 - Nice!
#47 - Visual quality issues generally don't phase me, except for interlacing (and it was here in spades).
#48 - Weird, but interesting. Way too much Spiderman footage.
#49 - I'm kind of neutral on this one.
#50 - Moves along quite well for its length.
#51 - Way too much sped up footage and the character cutout transitions were cheesy.
#52 - What the hell was this??
#53 - Can I have those seven minutes back?
#54 - Ok I guess...
#55 - Really nice video. The text felt out of place though.
#56 - Very well done.
#57 - A nice enough upbeat video.
#58 - Didn't leave much of an impression on me.

You've got nothing on me Castor. What's worse is you realize that it's a problem only after someone points it out and now it's all I can see. :(

So far the only negative thing I've seen about my video is sadly a problem I was aware of but unable to deal with due to time constraints.
