For the english speakers:

I asked if there will be an expo screening as well and apologized for my bad German.

I myself don't know how these strange (at least in some points) rule were set up...

IMHO, don't care about the timeline!
Maybe the organizers set up a tight time frame.
I don't have anything to do with the planning of contest, but i thought some advertisement would help since last years entries were quite crappy.

@ Chaos & Ashyukun:

You don't have to use a song with German lyrics or from a German band.

"Die Prinzen" = good torture :P

Hi iserlohn!

So it's true that you can speak German :)
Honestly you're doing quite well at it!

Text in English:

There will be an expo, too, but I can't exactly tell which and who's videos are shown.
If you want your AMV to be shown there then contact David.

There will also be another big con in Germany this year, called Animagic.
Probably there will be an AMV contest, too! [/b]

I know :D But I've wanted to make a video to a couple of the Die Prinzen songs for a while anyways, and this would be a perfect opportunity, and a bit better of a target audience than a US con anyways- especially if I'm planning on matching the video up with the lyrics (and not putting subtitles in, though I would probably do that as an option in distroing it).

Again, as that is right about the time of AWA, it may be difficult to find the time to actually make the video, though. :/

Giton: Vielen dank. Wie viele Videos können wir einreichen? 1? 2? Auch, ist shounen-ai ok?

To everyone else:

I did a little experimenting tonight and have the following recommendations for submitting your video.

1)The contest is being run in Europe, which means that any (S)VHS/DVD mastering will be in PAL. Please use your editing software's specs for PAL if you are making a vid specifically for this con. This should be 352x288 for VCD/Half-Re and 720x576 for DVD/Full Res.

2)I did a test outputting a 640x480 29.97 workfile to PAL. Premiere does a much better job than Vegas Video, providing smoother lines on high motion sequences. TMPEG also does a very nice job, but I recommend using higher bitrates than the generic DVD (PAL) profile. I wish that I could comment on Final Cut Pro, but alas, I'm using Windows.

3)DivX uses whatever you give it for framerate. This means that if you feed it a 29.97fps file you'll get one out. Understand that something may be lost in the conversion (since I have no idea what the contest is being compiled on).

Good luck to all!

Shonen ai would be ok. The prohibtion of pornographic material concerns only pure Hentai (Anime like Ebichu might be an exception).

I contacted one of the organizers to obtain more information about the AMV expo and I will post it here when I get an answer.

Thanks for the interest, but you don't have to go that far ;)
Indeed the standart video format used at the con will be NTSC.
Thats due to the circumstance that many European creators and especially German creator use Japanese or US source for their AMVs.
PAL conversions of Anime are still very crappy here :(
I suggest using a framerate of 23,976/24 fps, but 29,97 fps should be ok, too.
Never mind the resolution as long it's above or arround 352x288.
Normally computers or NTSCable Players are used.

I wish I could be there- it would be quite nice to get back to Europe for a while. But, I'll likely have to settle for sending a bit of my creativity in my place :?
