Congrats to the winners - a lot of the awards came out how I figured that they would (Drama I think was the most surprising). From those aroun me many were pleased with the overall quality of the videos this year minus a few stinkers here and there (can't like everything, myself included since I think a few of the videos were poor as well).

Good contest this year and I am ESPECIALLY pleased to see how packed the AMV room was the entire time, there was a solid line to get in the entire time and a resounding crowd throughout. Though apparently the line for the Top 12 countdown began some three hours before that block. Here's hoping for expanded programming next year (and yes Vlad, the video rooms were very vacant all weekend).

The contest lights were a problem but I can see where Troy was in conflict with policy and law so he did the best with what he was given. Otherwise the contest was VERY smooth and I'm quite pleased.

Iron Chef - glad to edit again. Thank God, without being able to enter AX's amv contest I hadn't edited a video in a whole year - the first time that's happened since I began editing. So editing there finally has motivated me to work again on an AMV (which is good with AWA around the corner). Congrats to Kisanzi, great video. Nice to know it was a close call too which means quality all around (curious as to where the four points difference were between our videos but I don't care enough to press the issue). I'll post my video on the org probably sometime tomorrow.

Also I apologize for dissapearing immediately following the contest - my wife wanted to go to Blum's panel so I rushed down there with her to make certain she got in to see it since it was scheduled to start as soon as Iron Chef ended. I was hoping to make it back up to the AMV room and catch you guys as soon as the panel was out but when I went back up there everyone outside of Vlad and Troy were gone.

Rider, sorry about how the panel went, since there was a dispute over the starting time and we consequently started late I had to cut and rush A LOT of material leaving you little to do. I apologize for that. As for the panel itself, got a body count of 200 from room staff which is awesome, I was busy for a solid half hour with questions following the panel so I plan on renewing it next year either as a two hour block or on two separate days with one hour blocks. For any editors interested I created a fast handout of copyright and Anime fandom. If you would like a copy pm me or e-mail me and I'll get you one tomorrow.

So indeed, AMVs are very popular at AX and although it was very demanding doing the AMV interactive all day long, very well worth it...

AMV block in the Concourse Hall next year! Vlad, your block was my favorite part of the entire convention  and thank you for allowing me to take part in it. i've even become inspired to create my own parody of a well known amv.....

and Troy, i had no doubts the lighting situation was out of your control. and you still owe me a "beer or something"

sean, i enjoyed being part of your panel, thanks for having me. i hope i'm invited back next year :) only reserve it for 2 hours next time. it was clearly a hit and you caught everybody's interest  very clever innovation.

Which reminds me, what were the results of the Iron Chef and how do I go about challenging the victor for next year?

Well, if you're serious about competing in the AMV chef next year, then just message xstylus about wanting to be the challenger like I did this year. I'll gladly volunteer to be a judge/potential opponent again if it means we get you to come out to AX next year.

As for the AX events, great work this year. The con really responded well to all of the new additions. Contest went smoothly and every event was packed. And thanks to The Wired Knight for being a great opponent for the AMV chef and giving me a good challenge. You rock man, just wish we could of hung out a bit more this year. :P

Oh, can we get a list of the videos in the preshow? I liked many of them but I didn't manage to write down all of the ones I wanted to watch again. Also, does anyone have a list of all of the videos played during the AMV interactive block?

Whew, finally got back to a stable internet connection.

Gotta say, the organization of this years AMV Contest impressed the socks off of me. Everything technical seemed to flow with minimal hiccups or delays, the setup of the entries was fantastic (the way the recap and the titling system were presented very professionally, loved the feel), and the ballots themselves deserve a special mention. Ingenious. I got everything I needed on that ballot (AMV Title, song, creator and anime) and while I did feel like I was spoiling the suprise knowing which anime was coming, it helped oodles when I was voting and taking notes for later download. That's the way ballots should be. Kudos to whoever organized that.

I can take pride that I didn't make it into this years finalists; all of them were incredible and deserving of their spot. That isn't to say there weren't standouts, NarutoBall Z Shippuden got my respect for taking DBZ (which I have grown a little tired of) and Naruto (which I can't stand whatsoever) and mashing them up into a concept that not only works and kept my interest, but blew my mind from an editors standpoint. Sitting with the crowd (and, during the rescreen, fellow creators) was a treat. Having them laugh at Nice Guys Finish Last, fist pump on Put Ya Guns On!, and bop along to the Safety Dance put the cream on the sunday (Some guys were screaming like they were on fire during Smile!. Huh.). This was definately the year of the AMV at AX.

Okay, enough of the sappy stuff.

YOU GUYS. Yes, YOU. It was GREAT to meet new faces, ...and then sadly get your names wrong like,...like 5 seconds later(I'm sorry, I'm terrible at names, takes me a couple of tries). Regardless, had a BLAST at the Meet & Greet dinner. Had a BLAST (barely) getting back to the hotel after said Meet and Greet. Rider, the panel you and Stryyder put together. BLAST. Was fun putting faces to AMVs. Vlad. AMV rooms. BLAST. Missed a few of them, but the Anime then and now one got me to appreciate what AMV's should be at heart. It also got me to convulse at that Fighting AMV set to Ludicrous Speed. I missed Chef, but I'm sure it was a BLAST and fully intend to check it out next year.

So goodnight you Princes of Post rendering, you Kings of Converters. Until next year.

Actually I think the entire third block played during the rescreen.

I don't think I can say much that hasn't been said already, but I loved the contest this year, I too think it's the strongest one I have seen from AX. I thought all of the videos felt at home in their respective categories, and though I was iffy on the quality of just a couple of them it didn't feel like anything to make a big deal about. The preshow, ballots, etc, I hope this this quality continues into next year. |:>

My only complaint is that I personally think the recaps were a bit too long? I know they aren't very long to begin with but I don't think you need that much to remember which vid was which. 'Course, I was kinda anxious to see the next block of vids too.

Sadly I missed the majority of the AMV room because I was sitting in line for a signing for half the day, but what I saw was very fun and I'd love to visit more next year.

For the re-screening I had to recompile the pre-show to remove the AMV Chef commercials, and had only built a 30-minute track. I was soon informed that I actually had a whole hour that I could fill, so I hastily started a compile of another 30-minute track. Some vids might not have made it to the timeline as I was doing a rushed copypasta from the old pre-show timeline.

That also meant I didn't have time to do a watch of the compile, and as Murphy's Law dictates, anything unchecked will surely glitch. Sure enough, Vlad's vid glitched, and I apologized to him profusely (since he was right in front of me when it happened...) With that being the only visible glitch of the entire con insofar as AMV events was concerned (miraculously), Vlad just smiled and shrugged it off. :)
