ConnectiCon's Pre-screening Policy
All videos which have not been disqualified are shown to a group of pre-screeners. These pre-screeners are staff members of the convention who volunteer their time to watch and score the videos. The pre-screening is a dry event (although last year we had copious amounts of cookies to make up for the lack of alcohol). Some of the pre-screeners have experience with video editing either in professional or amateur endeavors, but most do not. Last year we had 10 pre-screeners and 3 were editors. Staff members who submit videos to the contest are ineligible to attend the pre-screening.
Each pre-screener is asked to judge the video on a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being best. If a video is SO terrible that we can't stand to watch it to the end, a vote is called to skip the video. This vote must be unanimous for the motion to pass. If even one pre-screener believes that the video has merit, it will be watched in its entirety. In the event of a skipped video, said video automatically receives a zero from all judges. Last year a total of 31 videos (out of 73) were skipped. The judges were not liberal with this policy and in-depth discussion takes place any time a motion to skip is called.
After the convention is over I will provide judging scores via PM to those who ask, and will give my own personal opinion on the video if requested. Please be aware that I WILL be honest. If we skipped your video I will not sugar-coat this... but I WILL tell you why I think it received such a poor reception and provide constructive criticism, if you want it.
