Finished my nominations.
6 categories received 3 or fewer nominations from me. (kinda disappointing) Overall i nominated 24 different videos but only 11 of those actually got above average scores from me. (proof i'm doing my part to be fair and unbiased by giving every decent video a shot at winning) will be interesting to see how the category finalists come down, expect a few tough choices on a couple categories.

spoiler includes my basic review of all the videos

Spoiler :
5 point system:
5 - quality and enjoy-ability expected of a video worthy of winning in a standard competition environment
4 - above average, re-watchable video
3 - average/normal/standard
2 - poor video in need of major work
1 - completely failed concept and/or execution

I'm a harsh critic :)

1) general clip mix, no story/plot/theme 2/5
2) story jumpy, beat/sync tech off 3/5
3) repetitive, too much txt usage 2.5/5
4) source kills seriousness of vid, otherwise mostly complete serious style vid 3/5 (reminds me heavily of the rabbits v. camels vid from last year. hmmmm???)
5) all picture frames and lip sync, good tech skills 2/5
6) Video Removed
7) semi-sex, standard dance vid, audio bounced genres too much 2.5/5
8) source doesn't match vid mood, trailer like in execution 2/5
9) general clip collection, no cohesion 2/5
10) good story/audio progression, tied together/transitioned well 5/5
11) amusing, entertaining, short 4/5
12) generic action vid, could have done more, seen vid before 3/5
13) lack of full story/connections 2/5
14) seen many months/conventions before, belongs in Expo competition. DQ
15) decent, gets a bit ridiculous, good execution 3/5
16) like action sync, a little repeat clips but good 5/5
17) generic action clip, too effect flashy, too long 2.5/5
18) DVD menu w/ music, horrible 1/5
19) semi-serious, occasionally amuzing 3/5
20) Video Removed
21) story points off, decent action/mood sync 3/5
22) not funny, maybe amusing 1/5
23) jumpy, over focused on beat 3/5
24) generic action, poor source fight scenes reduces quality of vid action 2/5
25) trailer-ish, decent story, lyric avoidance 3.5/5
26) orchestral, artististic, good mood sync/movement 4/5
27) interesting idea, 2nd voice is rehash of first so makes vid repeat itself 2/5
28) flashy/jumpy, seizure vid, computer 'analysis' theme overused, short 2/5
29) ok, over focus on 'looking cool' scenes, need some story/plot/theme cohesion 3/5
30) good, sync well, entertaining, missing overall/total vid theme 4/5
31) roto scene change got annoying, scene movement too fast, partially present story, ad at end annoying 3/5
32) started strong ten died out, repetitious 3/5
33) mash up, 'look at how cool these new upcoming games look' 2/5
34) standard scenes with music, reminds me of D-con AMVs = not a good thing 1.5/5
35) mood music to match mood of source with story review/recap 1/5 (just like the coraline video from last year. hated that one and if its same editor then shame on them)
36) decent recap vid, good sync + flow, official trailers did better job at cohesion 3/5
37) interesting idea, get the link/connection, very little execution of idea 2.5/5
38) fun music, basic scene match to music, no storytelling 3/5
39) another FF love story vid, very generic 1/5
40) frame rate issues, lip syncing off, fun 3.5/5
41) fun, well done, a little repetitive, music shift was very confusing 3.5/5
42) well done, good sync/story, enjoyable 5/5
43) jumbled, lip sync off, feels slapped together 2.5/5
44) off beat song combined with off beat source 2/5
45) very trailer-ish, used trailer audio 1/5
46) another 'look at this cool new video game footage' vid, otherwise well done 2/5
47) generic, short 3/5
48) obvious pairing, good execution, at times a little off 4/5
49) general scene plus music, super flash seizure 1/5
50) 'psych' opening via 'case closed' 2/5
51) way too long, technical execution very well done, story/plot becomes pointless 2.5/5
52) standard vid, girl having fun, piano + imagination combo 3/5
53) not really amusing, ok execution 2/5
54) very repetitive, video repeats itself despite music shifts 2/5
55) TV watermark, generic story 2.5/5
56) good sync/action, story movement, something missing in 2nd half 4.5/5

Ok, I give.

About video 18.
I enjoyed it.

Have none of you people seen this?

Video 18 is a parody of an actual music video.

Well that's up for the individual to decide.
Personally I think it was. Other views may differ.

I think "picky" is more accurate, as some of the videos you gave high scores for (#16 is a 5/5? really? It's rather mediocre and there was really nothing special about it...) weren't that great, technical or concept wise. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind criticism of my of my own video, but I expect more out of someone who claims to be a "critic"...

Video 18 is a parody of an actual music video.

The "ponies" fad killed it for me. It could have used Naruto and I would have enjoyed it better. Wasn't a bad video, but I'm just sick of the all up in your face "PONIES" crap. Had it not been for the fans ruining ponies, I would have enjoyed it more, and actually been amused that they used MLP.

Speaking as a member of the MLP fanbase I will admit that we can be very overwhelming with our admiration for this show, but I like to think that quality work like video #18 can still be enjoyed and appreciated for what it is despite people's personal feelings about the popularity of FIM.

I have seen and really enjoyed several music videos to animes and live action movies that I hated. I don't make my personal feelings about the sources used the deciding factor on whether the video is good or bad.

I didn't say it was bad, I simply said I couldn't enjoy it, as my first reaction was "sigh, ponies >.>"

Also, the original video is just boring, so the humor in parodying it is very limited and only lasts for the first 10 seconds, then it's kinda like "well, this is a very technical video and I'm sure it was hard to do, but..."

I would like to point out btw, I'm not hating on the ponies in the contest, I did nominate some of those videos for stuff; I just simply didn't enjoy them to the fullest that they were intended.

I enjoyed it too, & I did watch the Kanye West video afterward... It is also screen saver, though not one I'd want.

Also Kanye West punched one of my friends.

First off, while limiting bias is good, the point here isn't objectivity; AMVs are an art. Secondly, you very clearly demonstrate a preference for action vids/editing style in your scores, so your bias speaks for itself.

"Harsh" seems accurate to me, so does "Erratic." ...Then again if I had a spread sheet generating random scores it would correlate to mine a lot better than mine correlates to zeiram's, so perhaps I'm just incapable of comprehending such an alien mind.

Finally:
I'm not too psyched about the categories chosen in general. I wish Romance & Sentimental were combined since Sentimental is such a small pool (and Romance isn't a large pool.) I also feel that there is a huge overlap between Best Video, Best Artistic Endeavour, & Best Technical. (Especially between the first two since they are essentially synonymous.)

Yeah, I have to agree, the final categories were rather random. I'm also not really a fan of "ponies" getting their own category. That said, I would have the same objection to ANY category because of the high number of videos from a certain show.
