But you can't mistake my not wanting to go to AX as not being brave enough to face you ;P

This would be a showdown too epic to miss.

I don't know the exact time and date, but like last year, it will likely be scheduled as an alternative event to masquerade. You cosplay fans out there will have to pick your poison. :)

4) All edits must be entered into the primary edit timeline and ready for final render by the time the three hours elapse. Final rendering shall begin immediately at that time. However, any advanced work (such as After Effects) must be rendered and integrated into the primary timeline before the three hours elapse.

I would like people to offer their comments on the above rule. If there is an issue or a significant objection, it can be adjusted.

Basically what that means is that anything you plan to make in After Effects must be rendered out and inputted into your Adobe Premiere timeline before the clock elapses. If you want to get fancy, that's the cost and risk you take.

The only issue I could see is if a chef's AE timeline actually is their primary timeline, but exceptions would be made in that case.

I think it's reasonable but if the editor is smart, they'll use adobe's dynamic link, in which case the issue is no longer a problem since any AE comps that are linked will be rendered when the premiere project gets rendered.

I think it is reasonable as well, as long as the goals of the rules isn't to find reasons to disqualify a video. Honestly I'd rather have the rule read like your explanation.

"Anything you plan to make in outside of Adobe Premiere must be rendered and placed into your Adobe Premiere timeline before the clock elapses. If you want to get fancy, that's the cost and risk you take."

For me...

"All edits must be entered into the primary edit timeline and ready for final render by the time the three hours elapse. Final rendering shall begin immediately at that time. However, any advanced work (such as After Effects) must be rendered and integrated into the primary timeline before the three hours elapse."

...seems to wordy. I know we don't want to sound amateurish, but being to verbose can be even more confusing.

on a side note, the event's #1 priority, while still a competition, should be to entertain the audience. if you DQ an editor because they didn't render stuff out of AE before the time limit, you're only hurting the people who sat there for 3 hours expecting to see something cool but ended up seeing someone get DQd because of something minor.

I doubt anyone is going to be making complex enough comps that will take a long time to render anyway. I assume the AMV Editor block is 4 hours long to allow enough time?

I actually wonder what Vic would say about this. I don't think it's ever been an issue for Iron Editor.

well instead of DQing, how about working the judging on a point system. and you get knocked points for not having everything together in time for the final render?

More or less, the video is incomplete at that point so absolutely.

I take that back, you're not judging the editors based on how long it takes to render their videos, youre judging them based on what they did editing wise within the given time frame. rendering isn't a test of skill or talent, it's technical.

... was that a yes or no?

last year there wasn't a scoring system, the judges decided together unanimously who the victor was.
 liiiiiiiight buuuuullllllb
so how about this year the judges have an actual scoring system just like in (the real) Iron Chef? judges can give comments as they see fit after the initial viewing, then pass in their talleys, and the MC (brad) can announce the winner.
