Just finished my new AMV for AMA this morning. (And to think, I've got another AMV for Otakon that I'm still working on.)

Cleared with 6 hours left.

All of you ambitious enough to be prompt, that's a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy.

Hey.
Meant to tell you sooner about this.
I showed some of my staff members "What What."
They were all kinda leery about it so I asked our con chair.
He'd seen the video before I asked and said it's a "no go because this is a more 'family friendly' convention with kids and parents together."
I wanted to make sure we weren't going to cross any lines and it's a good thing I did.
Don't get me wrong...this is a really good video.
Send this for the NSFW contest at Katsucon for sure.
It's just not right for AMA.
My apologies.
Your other video is still there though...

It's not too extreme - not in the least - and I'd appreciate if this blatant homophobia bullshit were not hidden in a PM but replied to in the thread itself. Let the rest of the people submitting know where things stand so they can make up their minds over whether or not they want to support such nonsense or not.

I thought i'd give you guys one last chance, and you fucked up. I'm done. I'm withdrawing my other entry as well. Take your damn con and choke on it.

Yo yo YO!
WTF?
It was the decision of the con chair in the end.
And homophobia has nothing to do with it.
Extreme is in the eye of the beholder.
Please tell me how a song repeatedly asking "You wanna do it in my butt?" and more than subtly implying instances of anal sex doesn't cross the PG line?
I sent the message as a PM out of respect for the rest of the forum because we don't need unwarranted drama here.
You decided to take your knee-jerk reaction out on us anyway.
Each convention has its own standards regarding what will play in front of a GENERAL audience where there are likely PARENTS bringing their CHILDREN.
I promise you there will be many a show that, were they to play this (regardless the likely majority reaction), parents and probably a good number of regular viewers would wonder how this got clearance and file complaints against the convention as a whole.
That's the kind of drama we really don't want.

But if it pleases you, I'll leave it up to the forum to decide if your entry adheres to a more "family friendly" standard.

Title: "Service Entrance in the Rear"
Anime: Ouran High School Host Club
Audio: Samwell - "What What (in the Butt)"

Our con chair is Ed Fortner.
You can speak with him further about the decision.

So you're basically saying that Anime Boston and Anime Central, cons much bigger (and I suppose better) than yours, are less child-friendly? Is that what you're saying? Because that seems to be what you're saying. And I'm sure those con's respective staffers would have an opinion on this.

Hell, next I suppose you'll be saying that AMA is more patriotic than more "liberal" conventions that aren't in "Real America" and that's why they have to censor AMVs that don't actually show any offensive content.

Methinks you either didn't watch the video in question or don't understand what constitutes a PG standard.
Either way, you took this statement way out of context.

No, I've seen the video, because I beta'd it. I've also seen videos with much more explicit content shown at all manner of conventions over the years, and I'm sure if we go through AMA's ballots over the last few years we'll find plenty there too. Even more if you include masquerade skits.

This reeks of double-standards and almost certainly an axe to grind between you and Bashar, and you're essentially interfering in the running of a fair contest by making an issue out of his video and his alone before the prescreening even takes place. If you want to call it AMA's AMVs That Deuce Loosely Personally Approves Of Contest then go ahead, but by getting as personally involved as you have you've tainted the impartiality of the screening and judging.

Anime Boston and Anime Central could get away with it probably because their standard is PG-13....while it seems this con is considered PG. One big rating does make a difference in videos being picked...

I don't know the con coordinator or the other editor personally, but from my POV, I'd have to agree for a PG standard, it is a little inappropriate. Now if the con was PG-13, then I would start asking questions to why...

You should realize by now that convention chairs (and convention company's board members) are the final authority on all programming accepted into a convention. If the convention chair decides that any contest video is not allowed, it's not allowed -- end of discussion, end of story. Don't blame Rich for it -- it's over his head. :(

I personally think [after reading MPAA standards] that it'd be probably PG-13 rather than PG. It's got a lot more sexual themes, and I honestly don't feel like its something that kids would need to see. I certainly don't think it's even remotely about homosexuality.

And I mean... If the rules say PG, then that's pretty much what you have to go with. Had it been submitted in the wrong format, would we even be having this discussion? A rule violation is a rule violation. AS far as I can see it, it's out of Deuce's control.

I also realize that Bashar's smart enough to not waste his time submitting a video that would have violated the rules in the first place, so I question when this "PG" determination was made. Either way the video deserved a fair up or down in prescreening, which is where such rule violations should be determined - NOT because some staffer has a hard-on against another editor. Deuce quite obviously went out of his way to make this an issue and abused his powers to do so.
