Have you seen any entries using the newer HD CG style of anime like, "The World God Only Knows" or "Kore wa Zombie desu ka?"

Just curious.

I would love to see an AMV from this new style on the big screens at Otakon.

HD or not, I still downsample everything to 480i/p. Which I think is a little bit more honest than Funimation UPsampling everything to 1080p. Yeah, I went there.

When someone invents a dedicated HD .h264 HARDWARE decoder card that also can output a true, line-matched 480i NTSC signal, I will consider running things HD native.

Bonus "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Moment: A small portion of the Otakon 2009 contest on Friday was run off an SVHS tape because of a computer lockup. With the right equipment, nobody notices.

Wasn't 2009 the year of the blue screen of death?

I think that was 2005. It's impossible for my system to even show a BSOD on screen since the only data being sent to the projector is mpeg2 data. When I crash on my end, you'd still just see black.

I think the Saturday morning AUSA contest screening from last November was a SVHS source as well. Really, you can't tell the difference unless you're in the know. ...

@vic - I assume if a video is submitted as "undecided" then you decide which category it will go in?

That is correct. Also, if a majority of the pre-screening judges decide that a video would do better in a different category, it will get moved regardless of what category it was submitted to.

My internets were down this morning. It was fixed around 12:45. Hooray for summer and oversaturated cable nodes.

I'm still getting an error. Must be a DNS thing. I'm guessing you're using some kind of dynamic ip address translation like "no-ip". Hopefully it fixes itself on my end soon.

H'lo, I'll be submitting too. I'm also finding that impossible right now, mainly because the sign up page for submitting by FTP does not seem to be working. Am I the only one having this problem? If the problem persists, will we be able to submit electronically other ways?

EDIT: It seems to have fixed itself.

Also, while I recognize that the rules greatly encourage submitting 720/480 MPEGs, will submitting things that don't fit those guidelines hurt our chances? I don't think I've got any choice but to submit something that's currently 1080p if I'm going to submit anything at all.

Even though my IP didn't change, I just renewed it to be safe.

The guidelines are there so that I don't catch hell when some creator finds out that I'm, God forbid, not presenting every video in 1080p with 5.1 surround sound. Anything that you submit that doesn't adhere to the guidelines will be converted by ME. It will not hurt your chances of getting in if your entry is not 100% compliant. This isn't ACen. THIS. IS. Fantastic, glad to hear it, sorry to cause you more work, submitting right now. On a side note, that may be the most enthusiastic response to a technical question I've ever heard.

EDIT: Looks like I successfully submitted. Any confirmation of this, Vic?

Thanks again.
