I think you are missing a zero before the decimal point there. I promised it wouldn't be chintsy (or however its spelled) remember? ;)

what does that even mean? :?

Dictionary.com wrote:chintz·y
–adjective, chintz·i·er, chintz·i·est.
1. of, like, or decorated with chintz.
2. cheap, inferior, or gaudy.
3. stingy; miserly: a chintzy way to entertain guests.

I usually see the word applied to goods (like home decorations) or materials (like on the interior of a car), not cash prizes, but I guess it could work.

Still better than getting a Naruto Figure that you don't want..

I do feel your pain but in our defense, we were selecting prizing based on what had been donated by companies and sponsors. So we had to parse it out somewhat fairly and evenly. We will probably have some of that this year also, in addition to the cash prizing. So you may get cash AND the crappy donated Naruto figure you didn't want. WHAT A BARGAIN!!!! :P

I won 3 rare Tenjou Tenge (I'm not even a fan of the show) figures back at AX2005 that were worth $100 each and sold them for double their prices a year later.

AX knows how to give.

It's a coincidence that drama is always the strongest category at AX. :ying:

man oh man these rules are pretty specific. I'll reread the rules after I sleep some. But I dont quite understand the Audio part. im still a bit new on different types of Audio/Video (mainly audio)

I opened the Video in Vegas and copied the info of the video.

Audio: 320 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, MPEG
Video: 29.970 fps, 720x480 Lower field first, YUV, 6 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 0.909

from wut i can see it matches the video part but i see nothing about the PCM Uncompressed. If I need to change something, please tell me. Maybe im just being paranoid, but since i only get 2 chances to submit, i wanna make sure its right the first time. I have the vid ready to go. Just wanted to get some questions answered before i enter. Thanks~

Nix Fun and make the category Freestyle imo. I guess my attempt to foist freestyle on the community at large didn't work so well?

This is basically the description I came up with for ACen Freestyle category in 2010:
Freestyle - If you build it they will come. This category does not mean "other". This category exists to give a voice to videos which are often more esoteric or highly original in terms of their muse. Many AMV creators have often bemoaned the ability of some videos to reach an audience because they do not compete well in a traditional setting where specifics are being looked for in a category. This is the necessary evil and at the same time inherent weakness in most AMV contests which use category based judging. Several years back when the dance/upbeat type videos were becoming very popular they were failing to win awards because of audience reaction or restrictive categories. Thus other conventions seized upon the need to make a new category. You will now find Dance/upbeat categories at many contests. This year the AMV staff at ACen is hoping to make the term Freestyle a success that can see broader acceptance in the AMV community. A good example is a video which is predominantly horror but at the same time makes deadpan jokes a couple times throughout the video. At some contests these videos have flip flopped between comedy and drama hoping to judge better in one or the other. The reality is that the video cannot be constrained by a label and will not see success in judging because of this. We look forward to seeing where you can take us.

I still don't know what the community at large thinks of it after the contest but we certainly did get entries that wouldn't compete well in the other categories and most likely would have been cut in past years. Now this may not work for AX because some of the stuff can be a bit weird.

OK now pardon me while I kibitz on the AX 2011 rules that were posted:
-------------------
I would agree with the others that Fun is a bad name unless you can differentiate it from the other categories. You mention compression types, frame size, and frame rates but at no point do you limit what containers you accept with them. Do you take H264 in mkv and mp4? What about avi and quicktime?

The entire rules post is also excessively large. Some of that data could be rescinded and shared later if a contestant chooses to FTP. I always say it's best to try to limit the amount of text an entrant has to read up front.

BTW this thread is pretty pro. If we keep it up we might hit the reaming quota of the average Sasha Grey porno in 5 days =p

Hopefully my action vid which has some uplifting themes will keep you from doing so even if the drama category tends to be out like that.

Thought I'd go ahead and try to help, since I use Vegas too. Hopefully I'm understanding your problem correctly...?

You won't be able to select PCM uncompressed audio until you are setting up to RENDER your video. You're probably going to have to render again from your project file. This time, pay attention to the template and make sure you customize it. There will be 3 tabs of customization options: project, video, and audio; all of these options pertain to video specs., codecs, etc. Most of that should be pretty self-explanatory.
good luck~

your settings should be fine. the PCM uncompressed is the most guaranteed stable audio version. however in the years since that was originally put in there the software has gotten alot better about keeping things synched with non uncompressed audio. Just don't pull any bizarro codecs and you should be fine. I will likely update that portion of the rules next year. Its mainly there for a "This is the absolutely most stable audio" reason. Sorry for the confusion. I haven't found a better way to word it yet.

alrite. Then im all set. Yeah i usually go with default settings unless i know how to customize it.

and i mean i know how to set it a pcm but i was scared to in teh event id end up with a like 5GB file size (Vegas is weird like that) All of my other contests had no problems viewing my video with these settings so it should work fine for you as well.

and with that out of the way, my next question would be do u take d/l links such as megaupload, etc or only mail-in and ftp submissions? Like i mentioned above in my previous post, i already have the video uploaded on megaupload with the link saved so i can send it immediately if need be. But if you dont then ofc i'll follow rules and send it via FTP. If thats the case then id like to request the FTP info now so i can send it in as soon as you are ready to go on your end. Thanks~

PS: oh forgot my email. lol. -facepalm- if u send FTP via pm my email is Valkyrian.Prod@gmail.com
