Editing just for the sake of getting money is kind of a douchey move too, it kind of makes me sad how many people are just sending in crap just for money. However this is an AMV contest so let the competing begin! (it's no fun without competition right?) :P

It's not like your sending in old videos though, that's my point. It's great to send something in if you worked on it for the sake of the contest, but not something that you worked on a few years ago. It's almost like trolling without trolling. If that gives a better explanation.

Hmm...how odd...points that I brought up last year and was yelled at for... Then again, according to certain people all I do is cause "drama."

And I doubt that the judges will think about the age of the video when voting. Hell, Michael encourages old videos as long as they're good.
Besides, if the judges can't tell the difference between videos with absolutely no editing (IE the Persona vid and the Zetsubo Sensei vid) do you REALLY think they're going to know about popular older videos? The average con-goer doesn't know shit about AMVs. Believe me, we played a type of "Name That Tune" with AMVs at NDK...didn't go over so well. Bleach Technique Beat, I.W.I.W.A.L Hold Me Now, Whisper of the Best, etc... none of them could be named without the help of guest editors.

From what Michael has said, a large amount of the judges are just anime fans and nothing more....so yeah, let's see how well they recognize the classics.

Feel free to look back at last year. My main two complaints: Troll-esque videos and the judging.

But then again, maybe I should shut up before someone throws out that lovely "D" word again. :?

And this is why I love going to AWA: the con-goers who hang out in the VAT there actually do know enough to be very vocal about their AMV preferences when the staffers are trying to figure out what to show during, say, Iron Editor. ^_^

(Even if it means people shouting down my calls for "BRIAN'S SONG!" with "NO! BUMBLEBEE TUNA!".)

I'm surprised it's even considered drama though. I'm just seeing at as a much larger issue considering the cash prize, that's all really. Judging needs to be much more gruesome and we can't just have anime fans judging for one of the largest AMV contests in the world. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be wrong this time around, but I'm a little doubtful.

The points and complaints are incredibly valid imo, and I shared some of those concerns. To be fair though, the circumstances are a bit different, and the manner in which these points were brought up last year weren't necessarily "constructive."

- There are editors on the judging panel (not just me and Xstylus)(though I am not really judging in this instance unless it becomes a tie breaker situation). Several of the judges as well as being anime fans are also very much AMV fans. With rather sizable personal collections of AMVs they have gathered over the years. Our judges cover a wide spectrum. From 10 plus year veterans of AMVs to some new to AMVs and several stops in between. I would love to have more editors on the panel but ...thing is... most of you are in the contest which automatically disqualifies you as being one of the judges.

While I do go out of my way to get at least one or two "clueless" or relatively so judges who can represent the noob factor...the rest of judges while not all editors at least know how to edit and are savvy enough to recognize quality editing.

- Yes the Zetsubo Sensei and Persona 4 vids were a mistake. We have learned from it. To the point where if we see a vid that looks too perfect, (as a few did this year) we go find the source and compare. There have been a few that we have had to do that with. You will notice that we have allowed time between processing and the start of judging to be able to do that very thing. Check source in the hope of preventing a repeat of those incidents.

Radical Yue brings up some very valid points. As she had in the past. I attempted to learn and work in as much of what made sense from all of your collective feed back as I could. We do actually listen believe it or not. ;)

Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that not all of the judges are "anime fans and nothing more".

Anyway, hope that helps a bit. You all really brought your "A" game this year. I have seen many very impressive videos. Its gonna be a good slog this year. ;)

All the finalists will be editors we don't know and who come from a different galaxy than us lower beings. :uhoh:
