On a serious note I'm sure they're going through the video's as fast they can. I'm guessing we're looking at somewhere between 150 and 200 entries this year. So it's only natural it takes time to check all the video's for technical issues.

Patience is virtue.

lol Think closer to the 300s. :)

Jesus 300

with only about 30 entries that means that only 10 percent of the entries will make it in

However, with more entries...it makes the judging process a lot easier.
Especially when you know that quite a few people that entered are "editing to win."

This basically means that they can make sure that last year's "Action" category doesn't happen again. With with a larger selection, you have the ability to immediately DQ videos with glaringly bad problems, like subtitles, logos, bad quality, aspect ratios, etc....
It's easier on the judges and it helps the contest because you sift out the dirt quickly and get to spend more time watching/deliberating about the gems.

"Annnd it's got subtitles...Next! Umm...the quality is terrible, what am I watching? Next! Ooh, this one looks like it followed the rules, time to watch :D"

No point in eating an apple with bruises and rot when you've got a shiny one right next to it that comes with a side of caramel.

/personal experience

No more Bakemonogatari videos with subtitles and nothing but them driving down the street with Maroon 5 playing :P
If we have ANY of that then the judges/AMV staff will get to try a new flavor of pocky this year. It's called "Ratadesu Poisonaru" :amv:

Also, this:

While the legality of it is still up in the air...what's wrong with more people entering? Especially with more at stake.
If you dangle a carrot in-front of someone, they'll work to get it. If you tape $100 to that carrot they're gonna work harder.

While it does increase the amount, with more at stake, people will put more effort into their videos. This means, a better contest for the con-goers and more of a challenge for the other editors. And last time I checked...contests/competitions were all about the BEST OF THE BEST going head to head....

You afraid of a challenge? :ying:

Should be a jolly good show this year, hopefully. Maybe. I don't know...

Taken from here:
Spoiler :
NikkiO wrote:2. Lower max number of submissions allowed from 8 to 4. We love your submissions but we are getting to the point where its 40+ hours of judging. We want to see your best, however ever too many people are flooding us with their entire portfolios. Last year many of you were not happy with the delay in our announcing the finalists, this was a direct result of having to hold multiple judging sessions spread out over several weeks to fairly judge them all(curious note from Michael- judges start to reach burn out level at hour 8 or after 20+ drama videos in a row, despite infusion of junk food, pizza and energy drinks.). We now find ourselves in the position of having to force quality over quantity.

Oh the irony :P. In all seriousness though we all know why there's more submissions this year, and If I'm not mistaken, there'll be nearly double the entries compared to last year? Not to stir the pot too early, but if judging this year sounds like how it was last year, I don't find the judges' positions enviable at all...

Never. :x

I'm just worried that some editors will send 3+ year old videos and win a category with out really trying. Of course the video was great but that shouldn't be the premise. Some contests restrict editors from back cataloging their videos to create leveled competition and I felt AX should have done the same this year, especially with the cash prize. I don't want to get on anyone's case, but some editors that are retired are sending their old videos in the hopes of winning. It's a douchey move but it follows the rules.

Editing just for the sake of getting money is kind of a douchey move too, it kind of makes me sad how many people are just sending in crap just for money. However this is an AMV contest so let the competing begin! (it's no fun without competition right?) :P

It's not like your sending in old videos though, that's my point. It's great to send something in if you worked on it for the sake of the contest, but not something that you worked on a few years ago. It's almost like trolling without trolling. If that gives a better explanation.
