There could have been a lot of editing, but if one has never seen the source they wouldn't be able to tell that well, right?

It's not the viewers fault if they don't understand whats going on in the video, it's the editors. While the video in question was edited ok, IMO, it didn't make any sense. doesn't make the video or the editor terrible, just means the video didn't make any sense to me, just a bunch of semi-random scenes strung together. Now, to someone who might have known what the source is, it might make sense and might also be a better video in their eyes because they know whats going on. It's like expecting someone to know an inside joke, unless you were there or know the situation, you wont get it.

You think realizing it would stop everyone? I know who made like a dozen of these, not I'm guessing but I know for a fact who made it. I have yet to feel the need to apologize for any of my comments. That's the idea about pro, it's all about the videos rather than the creators. Personally I find it interesting to read the various comments people have made. Not even the comments on my videos, I already knew what the reaction would be to those before I entered, but the comments on others and how different some of our taste and judgments are.

Nor should you, I have no problem telling a person to their face what I've said in my reviews. Hell asked outlawed what I thought about his Evangelion Shaft amv he won with back in 1999. I think it won best comedy and I told him (when I first met him none-the-less) that I didn't think it deserved the award, but then that's what opinions are all about. Besides, I think my chances of winning anything in pro this year are close to zero. Had a couple of positive comments about the 2 videos I entered and none were too positive.

I haven't seen the source, but I don't think there's anything to "get" about the video. There's no "in" joke to get, it's just a fun montage-type video.

Some people, like yourself, can see it as a fun video but to me it's just random and not fun. That doesn't necessarily make it my problem if I don't like the video. Can't say it didn't make me a little interested in seeing the source though :P

I've always been under the assumption that bad editing and bad/misunderstood concepts are not mutually hand-in-hand. For example, Video #20 and Video # 29 kind of failed in edited in certain aspects, but got their concept across very well.

It works reverse as well. Video #31 was edited really well, but had a weaker concept.

[By the way, I want to see a shorter and better edited version of #11. I really think that could have the potential to be really deep and well done if somebody did some fun masking and minor alterations. for whatever reason, while I'll admit my judge's brain thinks differently, the viewer in me really wants to see something better out of that]

EDIT: Minor changes. I got several videos mixed up.

Apparently it was quite a few people, since it's nominated for Best Overall. :P I'm not just saying that to be contrary either, because I thought it was a lot of fun and voted for it in several categories.

A lot of people, who potentially have opinions that differ from the majority of people posting reviews, have been staying quiet but are still affecting the contest pretty heavily. The Alfred Lee Loomis Award was finalized and hardly any of the reviews liked the sleeping videos! While I am surprised at how few videos are up for Best Overalls (and very sad at the lack of Trust G), this is really just a small-scale VCA. It always has been, and hopefully it will continue to be.

If you look at my video, i don't think anyone got what I was trying to to do. For one, the editing wasn't good and two, i didn't do a good job of trying to show what I wanted. So not only do people not get what I'm trying to do, they probably don't care cause the editing sucks. That's not their fault, it's mine. Sure some people might get it but I'd prefer everyone understand it rather then some people.

I'm not saying one person is "right" over another... it's all perspective and opinion. If someone says they think a video is random and pointless, why try to argue against that? Just means I'm not keen to those kind of videos just like someone else might not be too excited about drama videos. If the editor wanted someone like me to like it, they would've done something differently. Not my problem. If the editor doesn't care what someone who doesn't like random fun videos thinks, not their problem either :P

I always found it funny with some of the comments on the one video of mine that didn't get nominated (the batman one) was "I wasn't sure what he was going for" or "I don't get the joke."

TBH there was no joke. I was driving home from work and that song came one about 2 years ago. I had just seen batman and thought, heh this would make a nice "fun" video. Not Comedy, Not Drama or anything like that, just a fun upbeat video. Originally I just made it for my own purposed. I actually had no intention to submit it anywhere. But after The Outlaw watched it he commented that he thought it was actually not that bad and should send it in here since people submit non-amvs as well.

Though I guess he was wrong since it seems most people hated it. Didn't even get a nomination for best non-anime :(

See that doesn't surprise me, because the category doesn't leave a lot of room for subjectivity. A category for videos about sleeping? Oh look, here's FOUR videos focused on sleeping.

Same as the adult category. While the description says something about a video for mature viewers or some such, most people associate that with hentai videos, thus all the videos marked as such got nominated in.

Kind of like that year there was the "best shinkai video" category. It doesn't leave a lot of room for interpretation, or vote splitting ;o Whereas you get categories like romance, drama, sentimental etc. and it becomes less obvious what belongs where for some people.

Why is it surprising? There were 4 videos about sleeping. There was a category about sleeping. The matching seems kinda obvious, even if few liked the videos. Although, personally, I voted one of the boring dramas for that category. A few of the drama videos put me to sleep far better than the hinako ones did. However, I think I was the only one who followed that thought process.

Except that the voting in the VCAs is open to vastly many more people than the eligible contestants in any given year...
