And now, the aftermath (at least from my perspective):

IMHO, it went very, very well, especially when you consider that we only had two weeks to prep the event. Amazingly enough, most of the audience got there at the very beginning, and stayed until the very end of the contest.

But it couldn't have gone so well without the help of a LOT of people.

I really appreciate all the attending AMV creators who contributed their knowledge in answering audience questions, and special thanks to Kitsuner for spontaneously loaning us a huge library of AMV's to screen for the audience during the competition, and for stepping up as the AMV-J. If you want the job next year, it's yours. Let's start compiling a playlist now.

Baitmaster and Wired Knight, thanks for putting your mad skills on display. In case you hadn't figured out from spindragon's post, I was able to get the finished product onto a hard drive and delivered to Michael in the booth at Masquerade for screening during half-time. He was blown away, and Troy's text message to me read simply, "HOLY S--T!" Great job, both of you!

I also really, really appreciate the involvement of the other Iron Chefs. Even though you didn't get selected, you stuck around for the whole three hours and provided answers to audience questions, and most importantly, came in very handy with technical knowledge when we were having issues with final render.

Nic, great job with on-site tech. Couldn't have pulled it off without you, especially since Troy was not available for the whole event.

And speaking of Troy, none of this could have happened without him. He was able to convince his boss to loan us two of his company's former servers to use as our editing machines. He configured them in his spare time, tested them, and got them to the show on his own dime, and all in less than two weeks. He really does have manly love for AMV's.

This is just the beginning. We only had two weeks this time around. With another year to plan the next contest, we can be more organized, hopefully get sponsorships for better equipment, and have everything planned out well ahead of time. And with more advance notice and the word of mouth from this year's contest, we will probably get a bigger room and more equipment to provide the kind of presentation I had originally envisioned for the contest.

Thanks again everyone! See you next year!

Yeah, for a first time IC, it went really well. I had a lot of fun judging, answering questions, and helping Kit with the playlist. The audience really enjoyed the event.

Big props to everyone involved and I know we're definitely going to blow everything out of the water next AX. Count me in as a judge/Iron Chef again next year. :D

The Iron Chefs were:
Nighthawk
Rider4Z
The Wired Knight
Castor Troy

The challenger was BaitMaster, last year's AX best-in-show winner for "Death Note Rhapsody." He challenged Wired Knight.

And the Secret Ingredient, Rock & Rule

I'm not sure if these would count as AMVs, so I'm not uploading them to the .Org.

Wired Knight's vid won. Both were phenomenal.

We also managed to get them shown during masquerade intermission too, and both were very well received.

Unbelievable success this year, even more-so for a first year and for it being organized so hastily. Far beyond my wildest hopes. I can only hope future years go so well.

I only got to see the last 20 minutes of it or so when I came stumbling in with my sprained ankle. From what I got from the event personally, as well as from some other people is that it wasn't all that thought through. I'd run over a few suggestions but I'm honestly afraid they'll fall on deaf ears.

However that aside calling it a huge success is a gross overstatement. It worked somewhat. But it pulled through [by the hands of John] kicking and screaming.

I beg to differ. This event went better than I could have ever hoped. As for not being well thought out, I really don't see what more there was to think of. I expect and hope that next years event runs much the same way, just with better equipment. Your comments give no fair consideration of what was accomplished in such short time. I somehow have a feeling that you'd find fault with the event even with the best of equipment, planning, and function space.

And that's your prerogative. If you're dissatisfied, no prob, you're welcome to not attend. Your attitude assuredly won't be missed.

Well, considering that I wasn't there but from the few people I know that were, I wouldn't call it an "Unbelievable success" in the sense that it sounds like you guys would've been completely screwed if it wasn't for John and other AMVers stepping up to fix technical problems and provide content. That being said, I think there were still technical problems present to the end of the IC program (audio and video issues?). A success in the end? Sure, sounds like it came together and the show went on but an "Unbelievable" and complete success? I'm skeptical that it would've gone well without the extra help from the other AMVers who attended. Probably could've used some more planning beforehand. I'm sure the technical problems can be fixed next year and if John (or someone else) is willing to supply the content it'll be fine.

But again, I wasn't there so all my comments are based on other's accounts of how it went.

Vlad

I'll have a copy of my video up on the org hopefully in a day, with the wedding now being two days away from when I am typing this it's no guarantee as I have to render a distro copy from the version I have.

Very nice job handeling the event guys, I feel it took off really well - course I was staring at a monitor for the three hours so i can't say much more since my attention was taken. And way to throw a curveball on the secret ingredient. Here's to hoping the event returns next year with a larger room/audience.
