Who cares if I deserved to win? I slapped a bunch of cartoons together with sound from a movie to make something that would entertain me for 180 seconds. It's not like I'm curing cancer here.
Y'know, considering that Azumanga DIE-OH 2 also did well, your winning that award does not seem like that much of an anomaly. :roll:

You make it sound like that's some kind of achievement. :? What's going to be your follow up? Using series such as Trigun, Azumanga Daioh, Cowboy Bebop and Rurouni Kenshin, and making them look cool? What an easy mark. I didn't contribute anything this year, but I was thinking of making a Witch Hunter Robin AMV to enter in 2007, but after what you posted, since Witch Hunter Robin is considered kind of cool, I'm thinking of using Wedding Peach (yet again...) and making that look cool - based on the calculation that you'll probably do the same MO again, it would be a good upstaging strategy, and if the song's weird enough, will at least get me noticed in the audience. I also don't have to go buy any Witch Hunter Robin DVDs in that case, either.

Well maybe there is karma after all, seeing that you don't seem particularly gracious to have won it and didn't even show up, even though you could have.

He's got a point there.

No, I'm saying I went with the lowest common denominator and actually devalueing my video with my own comments. I mean come on dude, it's eva, in a trailer! It's been DONE! (Though it is suprising how many movies Eva DOES plausably work with.)

...A devalueing that apparently went clean over your head. -.-;

I was waiting in line for the AMV contest but then I saw some friends and went to hang out with them instead. ^_^;

Plus waiting for like two hours to see if I lost (Which I was expecting, I was suprised enough that I was a finalist) didn't sound like as much fun as hanging out with my friends.

Eva is to AMV-ing what the word "fuck" is to English vocabulary, you can use it for anything.

Can I quote that on the bumper if I do my 'Shinji Gump' trailer?

But the "switching DVDs" comment should be clarified: We don't switch between DVDs in the AMV Competition. I know that the A/V staff switch DVDs between programming blocks, which can lead to wait times as the A/V department is chronicly short-staffed during the con (most people want to attend the con, not be stuck in a back-room somewhere). If anyone wants to lend their expertise I'm sure they would be more than willing to accept the help.

This comes down to an operational issue at the con, not the AMV Department.
Hi, I'll be the new coordinator for next year :D and I'd just like to reiterate what Initial B has said. I don't think that the AMV thread is the right place to be discussing operational issues, but I'll weigh in, since I also work in the AV office. The vast majority of screeners are on DVD; the video programming staff prefers DVD, so for video room programming I don't see that changing. I was also involved in Con no Baka. :( They used computers to run their video programming and for the video rooms that managed to get set up, including the all-day AMV room, it seemed to work pretty well. So I'm not unamenable to considering other options. But AN is huge, and DVD's are more flexible for managing programming on the fly, since computers would require one to set the playlist in advance. While running off a laptop is feasible for screening, it is not the most efficient way, since we have the Main Room set-up to consider and the judging format to accommodate. At CNB we ran the AMV contest off a laptop, and I wasn't too happy with the results. There appeared to be a lag as it was rerouted through to the monitor before going to the projector, causing some interlacing that wasn't there before. That could've been due to inexperience though. :oops:

Izumi is right about one thing. Theft is not a consideration at all. Every year the AV office experiences theft. Yet we still provide projectors, screens, big screen televisions and yes, computers for con use.

What about the part where I said you can adjust the playlist on the fly and load new media onto the machine without interupting the playback? o_O The playlist can be changed at any point without anyone on the projector noticing at all.

Lag shouldn't happen unless the computer was woefully underpowered (Which should have been checked and addressed long before hand... But then agian, it's CNB, you really wouldn't have expected those things from them. -.-;;; ) and as for interlacing, I can only see interlacing being added if you were using the laptops TV out function to connect it to the data projector instead of it's VGA output, since obviously the computer would HAVE to add interlacing to the TV output what with it being NTSC. But if someone did that, they should be fired anyway, why would anyone use S-Video or composite video over VGA out from a laptop? o_o
