I particularly liked the way you assigned the horn section to the train. Made perfect sense.
To me, that is a big part of what makes a good amv versus a compilation. If it makes me want to see or re-watch the anime used then it is more effective in my mind.
I am of two minds. I appreciate both styles. Old school (which is where I and obviously Brad and many others came from) and New school with effective use of effects. I can appreciate both. I like both. If done well. To date I think the best use of fade to black is still "Rhythm of The Heat." Hands down. Its on my top ten list.
"Condemned Memoir" was another example of choosing perfect music to reflect the depth of the character being highlighted. The whole Jekyll and Hyde dichotomy was frakking awesome. The effects used served to highlight the story being told.
Vids like "Attack of The Otaku" are fun bouncy vids. Well executed (even with the minor misinterpretation of one of the lyrics) and fun.
Vids like Nostromo's "Magic Pad" are visual eye candy compilation vids. Great music, great visuals, but not necessarily telling a story. Rainbow Revolution (one of this year's finalists) is an example. Very well done. Lots of fun.
Which do I like better? I can honestly say neither. I like them both equally. It really depends on my mood.
I don't know why I got off on the little tear there. Nic, I your vid really makes me want to see Baccano, I fully agree with what Brad said about using the horns with the Train. It totally fit. Ben did a thing in "Deadline 24" with the bell that just blew me away when I saw it and equally important...it was consistent.
ok shutting up now.
I suppose I can provide detailed opinions later.
