If you're already really familiar with Photoshop, then learning AE is quite a bit nicer. It's easier to think about AE as "Photoshop with motion" (in a sense). I don't personally use Vegas so I can't say what it offers or doesn't offer in contrast with AE. I think you should first ask yourself what it is you actually want to do with your videos. If it's stuff that involves compositing, complex masking/rotoscoping, motion graphics, 3D effects, particles, etc., then sure. Give AE a whirl. But if you're mainly focusing on straight-up editing with maybe some simple effects (blurs, color correction, etc.), than Vegas is probably more than enough.
