i didn't know i could save it as a photoshop document file in gimp.

TIFF is feasible as well. It can use LZW compression (lossless) and retain layers and transparencies. The file size tends to be a bit smaller too. (Only marginally though.)
That said, I still use PSD myself.

Great thankz guyz =D now i understand how to use Gimp. now i need to learn the basics like adding my grunge brushes perfectly =].
