most of those containers you mentioned are going to bring you issues with even programs you pay lots of money for...

what's probably best for you is to learn what file types work and what ones don't and learn how to convert them to the editable format you need

.. quite a few actually.

Pro's: Avidemux is the most popular and the most mis-understood software to use that's ever been created! Between IT and using VirtualDubMOD with IT there's not much that you can't do! Like VLC Player it has a few settings that need to be mastered before you can use it correctly -- and it has no problems with the Codec's your talking about.

Con's: many Codec packs that Avidemux understands interferes with Media Player in Vista, so be careful! There is no support for Avidemux anymore; the project was cancelled by the inventer/programmer of its design.

they mentioned containers not codecs :/

and with virtualdub mod/avisynth and basic knowledge of how to convert from one format to another, any program will have no problem with any file type you come across..

The OP also didn't ask a question - they posted a sentence fragment. There is no answer to a sentence fragment.

.. true, very true. however, if you wish to get the widest variety of answers then limit the direction of the question:

Girls are good at ....

AMV's suck when ....

.. its an old game, no one remembers who started it and no one even cares; its effective.

hehe-- never thought of it like that. It makes me want to answer the question less;

...where do I even start? do I simply answer the 'question' knowing full well that they will use the info I provide in a way they shouldn't [editing with most of the above containers is bad]. Or do I go through the long drawn-out process of explaining how to make an amv correctly... oh wait... maybe I will...
[I don't usually sound like such a jerk]

also, there's a software sticky in General Video with prices... some are free. Check it out.

although... you can get Magix for <50$... that's what I use...

rephrase that... "works with" is highly vague....

do you want to be able to export to those containers? or do you want to be able to use them as source :/
