How to take a clip out of episode

Postby vebs » Wed Jun 27, 2007 11:21 am

Yeah, I've been trying to find this out, really, I think you can see that I'm a total newbie with anykind of movie-editor, or even photo-editor systems. I think this is so noobish it won't be found even on FAQ's or any other helping topics etc. So how do I take a clip, like I want the part from 19:45 to 19:50 or something, how do I take it?

I'm just trying to figure out the whole basics of the Windows Media Player and then start making some sort of vid. I've always wanted to, but it has always stopped on me being uncapable or something. So I'd appreciate if someone could help me out, if there was a topic of this, even easily found but I still made this stupid topic up, you can call me names and stuff and I won't care, as long as they come with the link to the topic where I can find my answer.

Sorry to bother you.

you can use the "create clips" option in WMM or you can create them manually with virtualdub (of some kind)

I'm not sure if this is the right way to do it but I pressed the "split this clip in two parts etc"-button from bottomright of the screeningmode, first when I wanted my clip to start, and afterwards when I wanted it to stop, then I deleted the other parts from the beginning and from the end, does it work well in the end if I do it like that?

If your message, Jaddzia, already meant that, I'm sorry, I didn't get it perfectly. Or let's just say I didn't get the second opinion and I'm not sure if you meant that what I did with that "create clip"-opinion. But thanks for help anyways.

no this is what i was saying, but its highly inaccurate:
the create clips option:

this is alot more accurate:

then go to file->save

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want

well my wmm does it differently, everytime i import an episode, it automatically splits the episode into more then 100 clips

same with mine. A 30~ min episode of sumtin usually gives me 120~ clips, and then u just put it in the timeline, and drag the ends of the clip to where u want/need them and voila, theres yur clip. Only problem im having is its not very accurate..like...1/100th of a second i cant get it that close, which i sometimes need it to be.

That's a problem with using lossy footage and a problem with using WMM. If you want to be frame-accurate, either spend an inordinate amount of time constantly tweaking stuff, or get a more capable editing program.

Why the fuck are you posting in the WMM forum on someone else's thread like your problem is the same then?

You don't have to make clips in WMM either. You can just import the entire episode without cutting it. That is sometimes handy.
