Adobe After Effects 3D Problems

Postby TwilightChrono » Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:14 pm

I'm trying to create cool looking moving 3D designs in after effects, that I can use as a background while text appears in a cool way over it, while portals run to the beat in the same sequence. However, I don't know how to create these 3D designs. The best examples I can use to explain what I mean, is like the beginning of Warhearts Intraday Dereliction vid. Although, I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to copy, I just want to know how to do an effect like that. I got basic backgrounds down and whatnot, but this and the text effects allude me.

Also, I'm trying to create Cool looking text effects like at the beginning of Warheart's Intraday Dereliction vid. Not exactly like that but something similar.

Sorry to make so many references to an already existing AMV, I am just stuck between a rock and a hard place. I need to learn it for my new AMV that I am making.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check out the tutorials on creativecow.net, there's a number of things about making 3d stuff.

The background footage in the intro looks like it might just be a few layered still images with some animated displacement mapping to simulate movement.

The text uses a directional blur on a copy of the layer for the background, and then some combination of simple choker, levels/curves, and/or per-character blur and scale. The text also uses displacement mapping for the rippling effect.
