How much is adobe integration worth?

Postby Vivaldi » Sun May 18, 2008 8:54 pm

Okay, so I'm about to get enough money to atleast invest a little bit in some of my hobbys, one of the things I'd really like to get, is Adobe after effects. My only problem, is that I edit with sony vegas. I'm quite fond of it, and I frankly didn't like premire pro much at all last time I tried it. However, I know one of the biggest draws to adobe is the one two punch of APP and AE, my question; is the benifit of of APP-AE integration worth the agrevation and money of getting premire pro, just months after I got vegas? And if I got AE alone, with vegas; could there be any type of cooperation between the two? Or would I have to either edit in AE alone (bad idea, I know) or vegas alone? Lastly, at what version of AE would the changes stop being worth the extra money I'd pay for them?

Many thanks

It's really about how much money you have and how responsible you are with money in general - I know I wouldn't be using the software I am (Premiere and AE) if I had to pay for it. I'm sure the vast majority of people here that use professional software also wouldn't have used it if they had to actually buy it themselves.

I bought CS3 Production Premium on my own. ~_~

Anyway, you can use AE with Vegas just fine. My boss does it at work all the time. Basically, just export whatever you build in AE as an uncompressed/lossless file and import it back into Vegas. If you need to make something in AE with an alpha channel, then just export uncompressed, since that will retain the alpha.

Yea, I wouldn't switch to premiere just because of the integration, because the integration kinda sucks anyways.

mkay, thanks. Getting APP aswell would've been troublsome.

Yes, I should clarify, it's not "technically" my money. I'm reciving cash for my birthday, so even though it's adding in a middle man, it's still sorta a gift.
I'd never be able to buy something like that on my own. There's much more important things to save for :P

For my last question, are the effects added in CS3 worth the extra money; or does 7.0 get more bang for the buck? I'd also be interested if anyone knows where I could get one or the other for a academic discount? BHPhotovideo had an excellent deal for 7.0, but they only had it for mac. >_>

Again, many thanks.

CS3 has a lot of cool new stuff, and it would probably be hard to find a copy of 7.0 still. I wouldn't go for 7.0 unless you could get a significant discount on it compared to cs3, like 30% cheaper or more.
