Fun Fact: Photoshop doesn't like compression

Postby Hareoic » Tue May 13, 2008 2:19 pm

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended cannot read your AVI files if you encoded them in VirtualDubMod. Then again, I only tried Lagarith and Huffyuv (the 'lossless compression' codecs) but from what I've seen you can't compress them and then run them through PS and still expect to see any of the video.

I didn't see this listed anywhere when I searched for it, so I'm assuming it's either not extremely common knowledge or that I'm doing something wrong when I open or import a clip.

Ehr, well, Photoshop is an image editor, not a video editor... if you want to edit videos, you should use Premiere instead. :P

I only had enough to buy one or the other, so I went with it.

I mean, theoretically, with Photoshop, you CAN edit video (with CS3), I just definitely wouldn't recommend it. But yeah if you're going to import video, it pretty much needs to be Uncompressed. Just don't expect to import audio to actually time it to anything.

You can use photoshop in combination with WMM and create an effects-based video. :amv:

http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/ImageReader

Specifically,
# Read files "100.jpeg" through "199.jpeg" into an NTSC clip
ImageSource("%d.jpeg", 100, 199, 29.97)
# Note: floating-point fps available in v2.56

I think I can manage that.

Would be faster to directly edit inside avisynth, at this point... :?
And it was already done, actually (check "Pain" by Pwolf, if you're curios)... but that's some hard and tedious work... just stick to WMM2 until you can buy Premiere or something... maybe Magix would be a good deal, it's only around 50$ in price, but still a powerful editor nonetheless. :P

So... you bought photoshop as your video editor? Just want to make sure I get the facts straight before I fall on the floor laughing.

I also have CS3 Extended, but I never knew about this. Sine I always export my Premiere video in RGB first, I was able to try and open it with Photoshop, and it actually works. I'm just confused on how I can actually edit with it. It would be something to do when I'm bored.

Something is nagging at me. Ok, I understand you can use video in it... but how did you expect to import your audio?

No, I bought Photoshop as an image editor that also happened to work with movies to some extent.
