Ok, tutorials have never really been my forte, but
hopefully I can create something useful here. I'll be keeping this basic. I'm just gonna use a couple of stills in my project to create the "crawl" effect I think you're talking about.
1.) Ok, first of all, stack whatever clips you're going to be using on top of each other in the timeline and then scale and move the clips to where you want them. Just use the method I mentioned in my last post for this. The way I have it in the beginning looks like this:

2.) After that, select one of your clips and then go into your effects tab. Under this tab will be a section labeled "Motion." Hit the little arrow to the left of the word "Motion" to expand that section. In here will be another section called "Position" with a little stopwatch off to the left of it. With your time indicator at the beginning of the clip, click that stopwatch. A keyframe will appear off to the right of "Position" at the time indicator.

(The circle on the left is the stopwatch and the circle on the right is the keyframe.)
3.) Next go to the last frame of your clip. (Note that you want the last frame of the clip. If you go all the way to the end of the clip in the effect timeline, you will actually pass the last frame and you will just see black in the program window.) Create a new keyframe here by clicking the "Add/Remove Keyframe" button (circled in the next picture). A keyframe will appear where your time indicator is.

4.) Next, without moving the time indicator off the keyframe, click and drag the clip your working with from one side of the frame to the other within the program window. It should end up looking something like this:

5.) After that, just repeat steps 2-4 for your second clip.

With that done you should have both clips moving to wherever you want them. In my case it's something like this:
Beginning of clip:

End of clip:

Obviously, what you do won't look like mine. You can take the principles here and apply them however you want though. And of course there are other ways to achieve effects like this. I don't feel like getting into masking though. I think there's some thread about that floating around already anyway.
Like I say, I've never been real great and writing guides and the like, so if any bit of that is horribly unclear and needs clarification, just say so. I pretty much expect it when I try to teach things.
And sorry all the pics are links, but they were all too big for what the rules allow. I would have taken more time to compress them so I could actually show them in this post, but I have to get to writing an 8 page paper that's due Monday. I haven't even started the researching yet... >_>
... yea ...
