BasharOfTheAges wrote:Those are your export settings... Your project settings should match what your source resolution if you don't want the extra black space. Also, your squished video is because your PAR is set to 1.2 and you're viewing it on a computer monitor with a PAR of 1.0.
Thanks! I was a bit unsure of what to do - but then I did a new project, selected the "custom settings" tab instead of "load preset", changed editing mode to desktop, timebase to 23.976fps, frame size to 704x396, PAR to square 1.0, fields to progressive, display format to 24fps timecode (not sure exactly what this does, but I assume it's because my source is 23.976, so playback is 24fps????)
Now my preview pane looks exactly like the source image.
In Adobe's help file there's something like you can't change these settings after you create the project, so I'm glad I set it up correctly before putting time into it. I don't know if there's a way to rectify it if it isn't set up correctly. (I was playing around with the pixel aspect ratios, but the black border always seemed to be there). It is possible to stretch the original picture, but it seems better to set it up first.

also, just as an aside, should probably change the Data Rate/Recompress: to Always instead of maintain data rate
Thanks, that was very useful too - I can't use DV AVI because it won't let me save at the original PAR.
And I'm guessing the "always" makes the file size smaller. (actually it can't be - I saved one either way and they are the same file size)
There's no interlacing artifacts, thank heavens (I don't know what happened, but I set PAR to square without fixing up the other stuff, it was on NTSC instead of desktop, and interlacing occurred, even though the source was progressive 0_0 )
Thanks! You're both directly responsible for another AMV with a Britney Spears soundtrack.
