Premiere Pro 1.5 Odd cropping on the preview pane

Postby Ayanefan » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:48 pm

Image below shows something that I can't figure out.
Left is the input, right is the output

Project 720x480
Input file size 720x480
AVI file using FakeAVI
Avs Script:
MPEG2SOURCE("C:\AMV_Project\*hiding the song*\VOBs\Karas\Karas.d2v", cpu=6)
TFM(pp=0)
TDecimate(mode=1)
Crop(8,0,-8,-0)
LanczosResize(720,480)

Image

Why are the sides being expanded? I see that the image is not cropped (sorry) it's the area on the output that is larger. The output also has the black border.
Export size is also 720x480.

???huh???

I wonder if your problem isn't aspect ratio thing :?

As far as I know, 720*480 isn't correct 1,000 PAR. Correct PAR for 720*480 should be 0,9091(NTSC DV),or 0,9132(NTSC Video CD) - from what I see,I just checked, made FakeAVI myself, and checked PAR settings. Are you sure you didn't set your project as D1/DV PAL (1,067)?

Interesting, Rapture, but I'm not sure. I did a MEP piece for Moonie with 640x480 and the exact settings and I didn't get this. It does look like 50 pixels each side is being added and then resized.

My prefs for this project is:
Editing Mode: Video for Windows
Timebase: 29.97
Frame size: 720x480
Pixel ratio: 1.0
Fields: No fields (progressive)
Display format: 30fps drop-frame timecode

Scale clips to project dimensions (unchecked, checking made no difference)

For the FakeAVI, I'm actually using VFAPIConvEN, it doesn't have any settings to speak of. It opens correctly in VirtualDub without the crop.

Still puzzling.

Damn,sorry for double post.

And try setting Editing Mode to DV Playback,and if only Editing Mode change doesn't work,try using different combinations,just like : EM : Video For Windows+PAR : 0,9091 ; EM : DV Playback+PAR : 1.0 ; EM : DV Playback+PAR : 0,9091 ; etc.

Crap.

0.9 Pixel Ratio. That's what I needed.

Thanks Rapture. That'll teach me to screw around with non 640x480.

Crap. Now, I can't change the settings in the project after it's started. So I'll have to figure out how to get the best avisynth script to fix it.

Then if you want to continue your stuff, save it as lossless, crop out borders, and resize it back to 720*480,start a new project with 720*480(0,9091 PAR),and throw in your footage.

And isn't Karas anamorphic widescreen? Shouldn't that be in 848 by 480 instead of 720 by 480?

theres nothing wrong with editing in 720x480 resolution. you can fix up display ratios after.

You can, however, import your old project into a <i>new</i> project that <i>does</i> have the proper settings.

N00b, Purge, Scintilla, Rapture** - Thank you all for your input, I've made quite the mess of the initial video and, yes, I made a BIG mistake with the A/R. I think I've fixed most of the issues with it and will be putting the video out tonight or tomorrow AM.

Next time, I'll be more careful and I have learned much with this and all your input.

I think my next video will be called:

"How to ruin a perfectly good Anime in 1 easy step: Just add Ayanefan"

Please forgive the obvious quality issues upon release.

Ok, here is how I was going to do my "Test Environment" from the office. This is something we use here for virtualisation and works really well. Here are the basic steps, if you want more detail I'd have to try or you can check the ubuntu forums.

1: Install VMPlayer on your Ubuntu
2: Create a VMX script to install a Virtual Windows XP using this link:
http://www.easyvmx.com/easyvmx.shtml
3: Enter the parameters and save the file
4: Pop in a Windows XP cd in your compy (still under Ubuntu)
5: Start VMPlayer and run the VMX script from steps 2 and 3.
6: This will load up the virtual machine and then access the hard drive and install Windows XP. This will be an OS load so it has the same licensing stipulations as a normal install.
7: Once it is installed and running, enjoy loading your favorite Windows applications under the new Virtual maching.

The nice thing about this, is you can save the folder that you created the Virtual Machine and move it to another computer and run it from there (as long as the hardware is pretty much the same, when windows loads from VMplayer it will be looking for hardware and such.

I will try this again on my system and see how it goes. Now that I finished my AMV I have more time on my hands.
