Anyone know how to Rotoscope in Premiere?

Unless there are masking tools in Premiere Pro, I do not believe you can rotoscope directly in Premiere. You can (and should) however rotoscope frame-by-frame in Photoshop and import those frames into Premiere. Basically you want the rotoscoped frame to be in its own Photoshop layer, and when you import the Photoshop file, it will ask you which layer you want to use, and you choose the rotoscoped layer.

Hope this helps :O

Tell the actors from the anime your using to stand infront of a green screen then just a chroma key. Simple?

If you're doing masking, be sure to use the Pen tool, as it's much easier and more flexible to work with than the Polygonal Lasso (Bezier curves that you can adjust later on rather than straight lines that you must get right the first time).

Unfortunately if you're not working with green/blue screen footage (or at least something with a very simple/solid background, then no, there really isnt much other way around doing it frame by frame, assuming you want it to actually look good. There are quick and dirty ways of doing it (using the polygonal lasso tool and just kind of going around the character somewhat loosely and then just feathering the hell out of the edges, except it will look pretty crappy.

Look at videos like <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=78914">The Race</a> or <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=140609">Skittles</a>. All of the rotoscoping there was done frame by frame. And yes, it can take a really long time, though if you get enough practice with the pen tool, you'll get much faster at it.

AE doesn't necessarily make it any easier though.

pretty much the same way you would in photoshop, just without saving the video into separate frames...

create a mask and then use the pen tool

"Rotoscoping" in Photoshop can be done much faster if you create a custom script to perform the masking operation. If set up right, the only thing you'll ever have to do by hand again is define the transparency of a particular frame. Scripts also prevent your from making mistakes.

One-click masking - gotta love it. There are few things so satisfying as making your software do all the work, for once.

As far as the suggestion to use the pen tool, I concur wholeheartedly and would direct you to my upcoming tutorial...but it's not up yet. It's coming, though! ;)
