Premiere pro 2 avisynth quality problem

Postby Bane of Mist » Tue Mar 20, 2007 7:03 am

I'm working on a multi anime project, and since I'm using both 4:3 xvid footage and 16:9 dvd-rips I thought I'd go ahead and run the project in widescreen and blow up all of the 4:3 to fit the frame. I'm running the xvid footage through avisynth as premiere really isn't liking most of them straight. The problem is, the footage seems to be really quite grainy after being imported, more so than from simply being blown up.

This is the footage in VLC compared with Premiere.

Is there some line I need to put in the avs file to make it more widescreen friendly? Or am I an idiot to even try to put it in a widescreen format?

if you are using the avs plugin check to see what resizing algorithym your using -

if i had to increase the size of the vid resulution I would do it with avisynth commands and import that into prem along with the usual filters to help make the footage clearer.

If you're stretching downloaded footage it's probably going to look like crap even if it's well filtered. Try to find a way around that fact if you can (using a smaller resolution, resizing the wide screen footage, etc.).

Right-click on the preview window and check the Quality setting -- if it isn't set to Highest Quality, then the video probably won't look as good as it should.

It's not the quality of the footage itself that bothers me, as the same footage at a similar size in a media player looks fairly good, while it looks horrible in premiere even after rendering and playback in vlc.
