Well I find converting it like that works rather well with Bait and Swap. But I don't use effects so yeah.

And the reason why I said

Is because I've seen only seen a few Naruto AMVs that I actually like. The vast majority of the Naruto videos are created by noobs who have no idea what they are doing. Not forgetting of course that the majority of AMVs on this site are worthless. Yes there are alot of good videos though.

Naruto videos usually follow the same lines as LinkinBallZ etc.

If you actually make a good video with Naruto then kudos to you. If not, which rankly I think is more likely, then I'm wasting my time.

Btw for the older naruto episodes it would probably be smarter to try to find a way to get the DVD's since dattebayo released those in not so good quality unlike the new naruto shippuden eps wich have pretty decent quality.

Does anyone have a good, informative, useful rendition of an answer?

It'd be nice to have a stack of resources on my computer that arent gigabytes each after conversion... [just got a 6gb video file from once 267mb for some reason >.>]

There's two good ways already mentioned here..

The Origonal Head Hunter wrote:"Don't use downloaded footage" aside, I'd recommend that instead of converting full episodes you convert small clips in lossless format with VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. It requires more planning on your part, but its the best space saver you'll get with what you want to do.
That's the method I use as well for any anime series, when I'm not able to use dvds. I go through the episodes searching for the scene I want to use, find it, convert it to a lossless format (lagarith, for example) then import it to my editing program of choice and use it.

For the last thing I edited I used a 26 episode series and needed around 7gb in total (including the lossless export of the video itself I think) with this method. But really, don't expect to convert whole episodes to the point where they're 250mb each and have good quality (at least not in a format you can edit with)..

When using dvds, it's MUCH less of a pain though - working with .d2v's (a.k.a. using a whole dvd consuming up to 4-5gb without spending almost any encoding time) is perfect. So they're highly recommended either way.

If you have a REALY fast PC, you can try working with the avs files directly, but you should use ffmpegsource() instead for frame accurateness. Only problem with this method is if your working with alot of episodes, avisynth tends to get buggy. Realy the best method is to use virtualdub to grab the clips you need and export them to huffyuv or lagarith. Really is No other good way around it.

I wouldn't agree.. I thought it would be so too, but my PC is many years old (celeron 2.6ghz, nvidia geforce fx 5200 and the best part of it is the 1gb of ram, though that amount is quite outdated by now too - and in all honesty, i can't even play fokking Mount&Blade here) and recently I worked with 7 movies, each with its own (not overly short) script, and editing in premiere flowed just as quick as a lossless.

It's not like I'm back in pentium 3 era but it doesn't seem a REALY fast pute is needed to work that way, more like a rather decent one..

I guess it depends on what your source is, I have a dual-core athlon 64 5400+ processor, 2gb ram, and it still lags on mkvs 720p or higher. Its sorta usable, but doesn't play at full fps. Xvid AVIs though do play at full speed for me. So since hes workign with naruto episodes thats likely not 720p, He may be alright with this method.

If you do use this method though, At least in my experience, you'll probably have to export in uncompressed or Image sequence and recompress it afterwards. WHen I work with alot of avisynth files, I can never get premeire to export anything to any format that passes through the vfw system without crashing, or exporting garbled frames.

Oh, true that, i wasn't considering the possibility of using HD sources - sorry..

But yeah, it IS a good method for normal resolution sources!
