Now this is probably the most simple question.

What is the best software to use for ripping DVDs????

it's a personal choice.
I use DVDDecrypter, but there are many other options. I find that DVDDecrypter works perfectly, it's free, and has a low impact and doesn't crash.
other options I know of are DVDFab (??) and AnyDVD (Commercial)
also a new one that works with blu rays, but I haven't used that starts with MKV. Mainly for ripping to mkv, but you have to extract vobs before you index in most cases.

makeMKV

It actually works quite well on Mac, given my tests of standard DVDs, I will eventually get around to testing Blu-Rays with it.

DVD Decrypter is the best for any special stuff, for a regular dump use whatever you're comfortable with. I do a lot of PGS splitting in IFO mode (pulling specific episodes into single vob's and demuxing audio tracks) so DVD Decrypter is godly.

yeh i always do ifo mode 4 flcl
