Mine is on mirkosp. Zarx does know a lot but it's mostly related to older tech that isn't a good option to use anymore, and that's one of the main reasons so many AMV editors use ancient stuff via amvapp. Mirko is under training with some well regarded encoders, and his video knowledge, especially with avisynth and x264, is far above that of any other amv community contributor I know of.

going a litle of topic with this side note stuff, but, as a programmer myself, let me just clarify, theoretically you'd be right, but I was considering all the changes hes done with the program as a whole when I stated that, especially with the work on Zarx264gui which would require a good bit of knowledge on the whole encoding process to make it as good as it is. and of course, nothings perfect, theres some design changes to amvapp hes done that I don't agree with myself, but it still gets the job done.

Handbrake I brought up as just an overall converter to different formats, mostly people use it for converting to portable devices and the like. I don't think there is a drop in replacement for avisynth when it comes to footage prep for amvs or any other editing setup for that matter. Even my program has avisynth optionally integrated for some of the stuff mencoder can't do on its own. Avisynth was designed more suited for that purpose than a general purpose converter tool.

Actually Zarx's GUI is incredibly inneficient. It isn't a GUI for x264 at all, it's just GUI mappings for running avs2yuv, x264, and MP4Box from CLI.

Don't forget neroaacenc. :P
But honestly, that's actually what we need. Just something that deals with it easily... it does just do stuff from bat in the end, but that's fine. Pretty much all the options that an amver could be interested in tweaking are there (ok well, someone would want to increase qcomp, but there's always the tab to add arguments to the bat manually if really need be  ), so it does just what it was meant to do... which isn't exactly being a gui to x264.

Saa, getting back on topic, I'm still not sure why this app uses mencoder when ffmpeg is a far better choice. Or is the thread about something else, I forgot already.
