You mean to tell me...

Postby TEKnician » Wed Apr 07, 2010 7:52 pm

...That ALL of these clips came straight from DVDs? You mean to tell me that when I watch all these AMVs, that person has 60+ anime DVD collections (not one or two DVDs, but the whole series) in his/her room? If they don't have the DVDs, how the hell are they getting all of this? Hopefully not by being a damn pirate, I hope :nono:

Depends on the person. For me, this is my collection from 2007. I don't have a more recent photo handy, but I have significantly more disks now.

Having all the disks is far from impossible, and don't forget that people can borrow from friends, too.

I think I might have...maybe about half the number of disks you have in that pic (with right about 100 disks with me here at school)

I can also rent disks from my college's anime club, which has somewhere around 150 series that I don't

I've very rarely ever been jealous of another person. You might just take the cake, however.

[But... DAMN that must have cost a small fortune! It'd be cheaper to go out and buy crack]

My collection was featured on Shelf Life back in 2008: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/shelf-life/2008-06-16 It's the most recent photos of my collection I have and I have a crap ton more now, just no shelf to put them on in order to take newer pics. I also keep a record of my collection here: http://ngsilver.com/collection/ though it also is in major need of an update (and the addition of my other non-dvd collections.)

Then there's netflix and friends if I don't actually have a series that I need for a video, though I generally edit using only what I own. I've actually used netflix a few times to grab source from a disk that I own but is corrupted (a few of my disks don't play completely anymore) or series that I once owned but were either lost or stolen through the years and I can't find copies of anymore.

I'm well known for dropping hundreds of dollars (actually, tens of thousands of yen) on R2 remasters. KOR cost around $450. Utena cost nearly $600. I also own multiple copies of KOR, including the $250 pre-order boxed set (I was #6). And that's only two series, and we're already over $1300.

Yes. We buy anime. Lots of it.

Only elite editors have huge collections. I only recently started collected Anime, and I have about a dozen anime movies, a couple boxsets and slimpaks. However, because I started recently, a quarter of my anime movies are blu ray, and so is one of my boxsets. I really am broke, but my mom likes spending money so she buys me lots of stuff all the time.

Yep, I have a lot of source.

[Certainly. It is not that farfetched for us to use our own collection, though some tend to do piracy. I like using my own DVDs and Blueray discs because I know that the job is done right. People on Youtube generally have no idea how to preserve video quality, and I'm a quality junkie so yeah. Sometimes, I buy a DVD or BR disc just so that I can take the footage and turn it into an AMV. I like making AMVs. I can crystallize the emotion or mood of a song and lace it together with the mood of a show. It's a nice way to pass the time]
