16:9 FMA movie footage to 4:3

Postby guardiansoulblade » Wed Mar 11, 2009 3:39 pm

I bought Conqueror of Shamballa but I can't convert the 16:9 format to 4:3. I ran it through virtualdub but it's still 16:9. Any advice would be helpful. I'm trying to get it to be 4:3 like the rest of the series.

I want to make FMA AMVs and if the movie's set in widescreen and i use both show and movie footage the video will look funny because of the black bars used on the top and bottom of the movie footage.

Lanczos4Resize(848,480)
Crop(104,0,-104,0)

Although if you're cutting clips, then you can adjust the crop values so that you get the action you want. As long as it still has a total of 208 cropped pixels from the left and right, it'll be fine. I'm also assuming you're making the TV show's eps at 640x480. If you're not, then you have to do:

Lanczos4Resize(848,480)
Crop(104,0,-104,0)
Lanczos4Resize(720,480)

Generally a horrid thing to do unless you're finished with the editing and are encoding for DVD. By all means, try to edit in square pixels (i.e. 640x480) - it makes things worlds easier.

I cropped it and converted it in Virtualdub and I think it turned out nice. But I might keep my widescreen rip because I love widescreen footage too.

What's wrong in that case with Lanczos4Resize(960,480).Crop(120,0,-120,0)?

... or, of course, Spline16Resize(960,480).Crop(120,0,-120,0)...
