is dvd dycrpter neccessary when converting dvd to avi?

Postby kenny_kendall » Tue Mar 10, 2009 12:43 am

hi i was wondering if someone would be able to answer this question - it may sound dumb but i am new to this

i wanted to rip my dvds so i purchased a avi to dvd converter to do this.
i thought everything was fine when the clips were made into avi files and were successfully imported into my vegas movie studio 9 software program
however, now that the project is finished, the final video is not displaying those dvd files - everything else is fine but the dvd files are blank
is this becuase i didnt use dvd dycrpter during this process?
Is the reasons the files are blank becuase they are protected by copyright or something?

please help!!

BWAHAHAHAHA

And no, that isn't necessarily the problem. the problem is your converter turned the files into something lossy, which means quality is lost to make it usable for playback. What you want to do is convert your files to something lossless, like lagarith or huffyuv.

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

well if you have the amvapp you will have both dvd decryptor AND virtualdub Mod... pretty much what I'm saying is that you decrypt the dvd with dvd decryptor and use virtualdub mod to compress it to lossless and use those buttons to make short clips instead of trying to convert the whole vob... takes more planning but saves more hd space...

or you know you can always Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides
