I don't think he's trying to open a file. He's trying to open VDubMod himself. Have you tried re-installing. I would download the one for the AMVApp pack.

Go to your AVISynth plugins directory and see if you have any or all of these plugins.
- WarpSharp.dll
- LoadPluginEx.dll
- LoadPluginEx2.dll
If you do, move it/them to a different directory. These plugins are known to break autoloading and will cause exactly the kind of VDubMod crash you describe.

check the version your using:
Changes in VirtualDubMod (exe only!) 1.5.10.2 :
• Fixes since official VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 release:
Fizick:
- Fixed: inserted frame range and imported frameset end position was not correct in Avisynth Script editor.
- Fixed: too small string buffer to show Avisynth Information messagebox.
- Fixed: possible issue with Symantec Corporate AntiVirus 10
- Updated: added new Avisynth v2.5.5 and v2.5.6 keywords to highlight list.
