Hey,
To start: I use an OS X as my operating system
I have the following programs to use in my AMV making process:
1) MacTheRipper version 3.0
2) Mpeg Streamclip version 1.9.2
3) Aimersoft DVD Ripper and Aimersoft Video Converter
*I use #3 because ( so far ) it is the only program for OS X capable of de-interlacing VOB files *before* they are converted. MPEG Streamclip does de-interlace but only if you export as DV ... and 90% of the time I dont want that kind of encoding so ...
My goal is quality. The closer to DVD, the better. I used Aimersoft to rip and encode the Hellsing OVA DVD's and they looked stunning. Problem is, i think they were a fluke or at least not par for the encoding course because I tried Gurren Lagann DVD's and H.264 looked ... um, well, kind of crappy when useing the 2600 Kbps bitrate and a 1 minute 35 second cli was over 35mb in size.
For some reason I always see other peoples videos and they look spotless with the H.264 codec however what I am turning out looks obviously pixilated, there are not smooth lines ( they look broken in spots ) and the result is under only at 640x480.
If anybody else uses MPEG Streamclip with OS X: how do you de-interlace your video because ( again, only so far ) the only program that rips video for OS X in MTR and you cant de-interlace with it. What settings then do you export your video with via H.264?
I suppose the best thing to say is I have many capable tools but the right settings elludes me : (
Mainly, I am wondering if anybody has real-world experience with these things, not guides O.o
