Should I use Compressor?? Program: Final Cut Pro,System: Mac

Postby livnique » Tue Aug 14, 2007 9:13 pm

I've been having alot of trouble lately, I don't know how to use compressor at all pratically cause it's very confusing >.<
The only good file type I have on my computer is /mov and the ONLY onw that'll give me a good quality!!
I also use the ripper HandBrake, is that a good one?? I found out my one that did it into VOB files cut off part of episodes so I can't use that. I NEED serious help!! .mov format cmpresses to about 200-300 MBs lowest for me and AVI is just crap when I save it as that, it's all blurry and stuff. mp4 is smaller but also the resolution, and the quality is just horrible although not as bad as avi.
I'm asking for help on prgrams and tutorials, onegai. Arigato forthse who decide to talk time and reply.

.. PC buff here ^_^

.. if you are using Final Cut Pro then you've already got some of the Finest Compressors ever made:
RTSP by Sorenson
MPEG2 by Sorenson
Mpeg-1 .. not sure whose version Apple uses.

.. What you are really lacking on is a good place to start looking for MAC products
and for that http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections ... ideo-tools ^_^

I run a hybrid PC/Mac editing setup, so I don't use the Mac for ripping or the final compressing, but my experiences with Compressor have been rather bad; I'd personally recommend using ffmpegx instead.

For solely Mac AMV editing, the guides at http://www.ishtori.net/ have been the best resource I've come across, and they cover ripping through the final encode.

Compressor and FFMPEGX both suck the big one. If you have QuickTime Pro, export to Apple's H.264 codec using the MP4 format. It's the best way to go. Or, if you prefer, there is an x264 QuickTime component.

Handbrake is fantastic (actually, the best encoder on the Mac if you don't count FFMPEG and Mencoder), but it can only be used for ripping DVDs to MPEG-4, and you certainly don't want to be using MPEG-4 as an editing source. Use MacTheRipper and edit from the VOB files or export losslessly-compressed .movs from QuickTime.

I used MacTheRipper for quite a while, but it cut off my episodes so i didn't have the whole episode...
