Compression again...

Postby Amo-Chan » Mon Apr 30, 2007 6:51 am

Ok, the video is compressed with huffyuv, de-interlaced. (The audio's a bit tweaky, but that's for another time). But....the file is HUGE! It's 551mb! How did that happen? And what else do I need to do to it?

p.s. for those who've been helping me along the way so far, big thanks. And the video quality is way prettier than my other stuff.

lossless files are big...it's just the way it is.
to encode for distribution, I suggest compressing with xvid

But, I thought using xvid was no good for WMM? Won't that cause a lot of "crashes"?

distribution = when you upload it to the org
edit with huffyuv (i believe WMM has issues with lagarith)

Ok...just so I can be clear (I'm a little slow about this stuff, sorry  )
I can use the huffyuv, it looks really good, but...I can't upload it to the org because of its size. But, if I compress with xvid, the size will be smaller, and therefore uploadable, but...since I use WMM, it may not work well or cause it to crash.

Do, I have it straight? :)

to my knowledge, you cannot export xiv from wmm.
export it at the highest quality it allows, then compress with xvid in vdub.
compress audio too

you got it mostly right, but it's not just WMM that has issues with divx/xvid footage.
ALL non-linear editing programs have issues with divx/xvid footage
same thing goes for mp3 audio (won't work as well, convert to uncompressed wav for editing, mux the original mp3 with your video after export/encode)

there is a section in eadfag about exporting from WMM

Well, I think my whole wmm is beyond me at this point. I have officially given up on it. I found a tutorial (on youtube of all places!) that showed me step-by-step what I needed to dofor Vegas. Splitting clips was frustrating me, and I'm a "show-me"kind of person. Thank you for all your help, and maybe this little thread will help others.

keep that huffy around (on your computer, or burn to a disc) for your final "lossless" coppy... (i have started burning mine to disc)

but you can take that huffy and compress it to XVID for distro on the org! and dont forget to compress your audio too!! :)

If you have a large huffy and want to just upload it on the org all you have to do is compress it in virtualdubmod, to as said before preferably, in this case xvid. Is that what your after? If you have the lossless sitting there and you just want to upload why do you need wmm?
