.VOB to da smallest file?

Postby BlaCk_PeArL_27 » Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:59 pm

Is everyone know how can I change the .vob to the smallest video file? Well the last I rip my DVD and the smallest I did is in 3IV2. Though I need more info if there's any possibility I can change it more in the smallest file since I have few left space in my H.D.

Now I'm working again in ripping but this time I'm only rip the 3 .vob file and that is consume my PC 4GB except to those I save yesterday? I try huffy since I know that is small, I guess is not enough to make the .vob smaller as I want. Can you give me some idea or info to my problem. I have already 5 animes and that is 47GB eats on my H.D. so the .vob yesterday and today is something like 30GB. If I convert that into Xvid or other format I am afraid I'm running out of space and my PC will shut down "_" I guess?

Pls. do not tell me to buy another H.D. bcuz I won't just if you know how can I do this video into smallest you really help me alot also information like link you can tell me and I gladly appreciated your help.

Thanks..... ;)

Plan: Decide only the parts of the footage you need. Out of the 47GB total, you will never use all of it. Maybe only 5GB of it will actually be used.

Make clips: Save only the scenes that will be used.

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

This also does a good job explaining... well, everything: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtechbeta/

As I understand you clearly.... what you mean to say, is I have to get the specific clips and make them AMV, is that right?

It is really handy and easy as I see but I still want my video file make smaller. Why? Bcuz I know I will going to re-use again the footage and I don't want to rip again the whole DVD then do again in the start. All I want is make easy to rippin' the DVD, save more space then you can make AMV. SAVE more space, save more time and effort of ripping and converting the .vob file also I don't have to delete the other files cuz it will needed that in another time of editing. Hope you get what I want to say though I will try this if I have no choice or option to see in here ">_>

Btw.... thanks to your this idea ^_^;; I am really happy to know this :D

Thanks for sharing Phantas ;)

you can clip with MPEG2Cut.
if you mean VOB compression, just deal with it

@ Minion: true; There are few effective ways to save space.

@BlaCk_PeArL_27: Still...
The vast majority of footage is filler [I guess~75%]
At the extreme, for a scene of 2 people talking, you may only need ~4 frames:
-character X, mouth open
-character X, mouth closed
-character Y, mouth open
-character Y, mouth closed
--->and you may never use that scene

To summarize: Be Picky. Admit to yourself "I will never use this clip," and delete it.
What's left? The good stuff that you will use :D

Oh well! I guess the X-Y you mean is kinda intentionally ^^;; but really i don't care .

So you always do to go to step O.O? 1-3 all over again if you need to edit video from DVD? Watta waste of time is that "_"?

Nah.... nvm ^^;; I already found the answer while I'm waiting for others to give an options here. I agree being picky is not bad for creating AMV but I will keep that in mind <b>"_";;</b> guess.

>>> Minion.... MPEG2CUT still not small file but thanks to your post the .vob is not bad I say but if you use other compression to it, probably you'll know how space you can save ^^;; Just I did it now thanks for your time... ;)

True, but any form of compression will lose quality (bad)

No. You keep a Bank of just good parts.

*steps away from computer* I have done all I can. If you don't care about quality, then compress to XviD anywhere between Field Quantizer 31---> Field Quantizer 4. you will have lots of free space.

I did not use Xvid and I know it will make my video in bad shape if I compress in DivX/Xvid also do the worst part <b>^_^;;</b>. Just I found another compression to my .vob <b>:D</b> and right now it did not do loose even video quality <b>^_^;;</b> just I remove the audio I guess <b>:>P</b>.

So ok I think I will go on your idea Phantas.... ;)

You can always do what I sometimes do, if you want to have everything around to edit with. (Since I usually go in with a solid idea of what I want, but like having everything to play with for the little stuff.) I do a DivX encode of everything. It won't be too terribly big. Then I lay the clips with that so I know exactly what clips I'm using, then I basically do what Phantasmagoriat said and put the VOBs into virtual dub and encode the clips that I need into a lossless codec. Then I replace the DivX clips with the lossless ones in my timeline, then go through and put the finishing touches on. If its a small part that will probably only be in that vid, I just encode the small section that's in the vid. If its a scene that I know will probably be used again, I encode the entire scene. Then once you are done, you can either keep all the lossless clips, delete them all, or decide which ones you want and which ones you don't.
