Capturing programs

Postby dj_ultima_the_great » Tue Feb 27, 2007 3:56 pm

I'm having some issues with capturing. First off, I'm capturing by hooking my PS2 directly up to my computer, so I don't know if capture methods meant for PC games are going to do the trick.

That said, with my old card, I used to be able to capture with Virtual Dub Mod, but that program doesn't seem to recognize this new card.

I've also tried Virtual VCR, and that program crashes after about a minute or so of capturing active onscreen movement.

Moreover, when I do successfully capture a small segment of video, I'm getting interlaced footage, and my Avisynth methods for de-interlacing are just making it look like crap.

While I'll also be using capturing for snagging footage from un-rippable games, my main concern right now is getting this working for the sake of doing a speed run on Fatal Frame II.

So, what are some capturing program alternatives? I'd prefer free ones, but I can deal with priced ones as well. Thanks.

You can check out CamStudio, which is a free program that kinda sucks from my experience. Also there's Camtasia, which is NOT free but has a free 30-day (I think) trial, which should be long enough to allow you to capture whatever you need. And there's also Fraps, which also has a free trial period.

It should be noted that I have never tried Camtasia or Fraps, so I don't know if either can do what you want them to do.

maybe see if regular virtual dub can recognise the card.

Media player classic can be used as a capturing program. I don't know how much free space you have on your HDD, but it can capture in uncompressed avi format just fine from what I've observed. Plus it's pretty simple to use.

Just tossing the option out there.

I normally use Ulead Video Studio for some pretty good results. You can apply deinterlace and compression filters on the fly.

If you are good with programs then you can use DScaler too. Actually I love this program personally, so do give it a try.
